Former Scotland and Edinburgh captain Jamie Rithie is set to join Glasgow Warriors at the end of the season after a year in the Top 14 with Perpignan, according to the BBC.

The 29-year-old is set to move to Scotstoun on a two-year deal, cutting short his stay with the Catalan club by a year, having originally signed for two years.

Despite the report, Glasgow are yet to confirm the deal, which will see the flanker return to Scotland having previously spent 11 years with Edinburgh.

Ritchie had been out of action for two months after breaking his leg in Scotland’s Calcutta Cup victory over England in the Guinness Six Nations. He marked his return in their most recent Top 14 outing, a 31-29 defeat to La Rochelle in the league.

With Perpignan sitting 17 points above bottom-place Montauban, and 21 points adrift of 12-place Bayonne with only four rounds remaining, the club seem mathematically destined to compete in the ‘Access Match’ at the end of the season, between the second-from-bottom in the Top 14 and the runner-up of the Pro D2 final to determine who will play in France’s premier division next season.

Despite his departure, there is therefore a lot to play for at the Stade Aime Giral in the remainder of the season, and Ritchie will play a pivotal role.

Glasgow are set to see a number of frontline stars leave the club at the end of the season, one of whom is Scotland No.8 Jack Dempsey, who will move to Japan after five years with the club. Ritchie will help provide cover in the back-row, where he will reunite with fellow Scotland internationals Matt Fagerson and Rory Darge.

Elsewhere in Glasgow, Adam Hastings and Huw Jones will be moving in the opposite direction to Ritchie, with the fly-half joining Montpellier and the centre moving to Toulon.
