Huw Jones Bio

Huw Jones was born on 17 December 1993 in Leith, Scotland. He then moved to England at the age of two and attended Millfield School in Somerset.

After finishing school, Huw Jones moved to South Africa for a gap year. Here he played club rugby for False Bay. When the club’s director of rugby moved to the UCT Ikey Tigers Varsity Cup side, Huw Jones followed him and enrolled at the University of Cape Town. In his lone season with the squad, he won the 2014 Varsity Cup.

Huw Jones caught the eye during the Varsity Cup and was called up to the Vodacom Cup side of Western Province. A year later, he made his debut for the Stormers in Super Rugby.

In February 2017, Jones announced that the 2017 Super Rugby season would be his last in South Africa and that he was returning home to Scotland. He officially joined Glasgow Warriors at the end of the year.

Since then, Huw Jones has enjoyed two separate stints in Glasgow. The first lasted until 2021, when he left the club to seek regular game time. He was originally due to sign for Bayonne, but the French club were relegated from the Top 14 and he ultimately signed for Harlequins for the 2021-22 season instead.

After just one year of rugby at Harlequins, Huw Jones decided to rejoin Glasgow Warriors. He’s since formed a formidable centre partnership with Sione Tuipulotu.

Huw Jones received his first Scotland callup in 2016, while he was still playing in South Africa. He was omitted from Scotland’s 2019 Rugby World Cup squad, but has since enjoyed a resurgence in form.

He was named in the Six Nations team of the tournament in 2023 and he was included in his country’s Rugby World Cup squad later that year. Thanks to his form for Glasgow Warriors and Scotland, he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s 2025 tour of Australia. During the tour, he played in all three tests as the Lions claimed a 2-1 victory.

With many years of elite rugby still ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Huw Jones.
