2026 Nations Championship Format

Brand new for 2026, the Nations Championship will see the top international teams from the northern and southern hemispheres battle for supremacy before the 2027 Rugby World Cup begins.

The competition includes the six teams from the Six Nations (England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy), the four SANZAAR teams (Argentina, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand) as well as two invited teams, Fiji and Japan

The competition's format includes a European Conference featuring the Six Nations sides, and a SANZAAR and Pacific Conference that includes the other teams.

During the 2026 Nations Championship, each team will play against the six countries in the opposing conference across the July and November test windows. Following this, each team will play their equivalent-placed finisher in the opposing hemisphere, with a grand final to be played at the end of the November window between the first-placed teams in each conference to decide the tournament’s champion.
