Bristol Bears have announced the signing of promising fly-half Lia Green ahead of the 2026/27 Premiership Women’s Rugby season.

The 22-year-old has spent the past four seasons with East Midland side Loughborough Lightning. Green did come through the Bristol Bears Centre of Excellence and attended Millfield School in the West Country. During her time with Loughborough, Green made 30 appearances and scored 109 points.

Lia Green said: “Coming back to Bristol is really special for me. The club played an important role in my development through the Centre of Excellence, so to have the opportunity to return and represent Bears at senior level is something I’m incredibly excited about.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last few seasons and feel like I’ve grown both as a player and a person. I’m looking forward to challenging myself in a new environment, working with a talented group of players and contributing to the team. This is a club with huge ambition and I’m excited to be part of what’s being built here.”

Able to play both fly-half and full-back, Bristol’s press release suggests that the England Under-20 international will be lining up in the playmakers jersey for the club in the 2026/27 season.

After the midseason departure of Ruahei Demant last season Bears had no direct fly-half replacement. Millie Hyett and Keira Bevan both took on the role in the final two matches of the regular season, although Green’s arrival could signal the future of the position at Shaftesbury Park.

Bears have also announced the return of Lucy Burgess from Harlequins, as well as the recruitment of Orla Proctor, Pip Hendy, Bethan Lewis and Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne.

Scott Lawson, Bristol Bears Women Head Coach, said: “Lia is a talented young player with a really exciting skillset. She has developed well over the last few seasons at Loughborough Lightning and has already gained valuable experience in the PWR.

“Her ability to control a game, kick effectively and play across multiple positions in the backline gives us excellent depth and flexibility. We’re pleased to bring her back to Bristol and look forward to seeing her continue her development with us.”
