A crowd of 34,500 is expected into the “cake tin”, to witness the first Super Rugby Pacific final in Wellington since the Hurricanes’ 2016 triumph over the Lions.

The final will be played at Hnry Stadium in Wellington at 7:05pm NZT on Saturday evening, between the two highest-ranked teams from the regular season.

The home side, who finished top-of-the-table in the 2026 regular season, beat their long-time rivals, the Brumbies, in a qualifying final two weeks ago, before overcoming the Blues on Saturday night.

The Chiefs provided their fans with a standout performance against the Crusaders last Friday, showcasing the quality of their side in front of a sold-out FMG Stadium Waikato crowd.

Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley said the quick sell out is a representation of how the competition has grown in 2026.

“To see the Grand Final sell out so quickly is a fantastic result for our competition, the clubs and our fans,” Mesley said.

“The Hurricanes and the Chiefs have both produced outstanding rugby throughout the season and it’s exciting to see so many fans eager to be part of what promises to be a special occasion.

“The atmosphere in Wellington on Saturday night is going to be incredible and we can’t wait to see a packed Hnry Stadium for our pinnacle event.”

Hurricanes CEO Tony Philp added to Mesley’s comments, praising the fans and the city who have got behind their side.

“To see Hnry Stadium sold out for a Super Rugby Pacific Grand Final is a fantastic moment for our club and for the Hurricanes region,” Philp said.

“This is exactly what the club hopes for at the start of the season – the chance play in front of a packed stadium with a championship on the line.

“The city has embraced the opportunity to host the biggest match of the Super Rugby Pacific season and we’re looking forward to uniting and exciting our city and our region.”

Nice to see. Shows that if the interest is there, that stadium can sell out.

Unlike in the Argentina test in 2024. Apparently the upcoming Italy test has lots of unsold seats too.

One was of looking at is - at least the All Blacks are almost certain to beat Italy. They’ve been, mostly, letting the Wellington fans down since 2017.

Yep, they were even offering 20% off the Italy game for people who purchased a semi-final ticket.
