Stormers lock Adre Smith has been added to the South Africa squad that are preparing to face Zimbabwe and the Barbarians in a double header this weekend.

The uncapped 29-year-old will team up with the Springboks squad on Monday in Johannesburg before they head to Gqeberha on Wednesday, where South Africa A will take on Zimbabwe and the Boks face the Barbarians at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Smith is the second Stormers lock to be added to Rassie Erasmus’ squad, following Ruben van Heerden last week, was was called in to replace La Rochelle-bound Stormers captain Salmaan Moerat, who had picked up an injury in camp.

There were questions marks hanging over a number of locks heading into camp, with Lood de Jager only having a handful of minutes under his belt after seven months out with a hip injury, while the same issue has kept Eben Etzebeth sidelined in recent months.

Following the double header, the Bok squad will be flooded with Bulls players, who are competing in the United Rugby Championship final against Leinster on Saturday, ahead of their opening match of the Nations Championship against England at Ellis Park.

Worst call up ever. Adds power but disciplinary record is a horror show and is always a yellow card candidate

Which is why Rassie wanted him in the squad to learn some discipline from players like PSDT and Siya.

Maybe. Rassie can sort out the disciplinary issue. You cannot make a 115 kg lock into a 125 kg lock, nor can you instil mongrel into a player.
