England hopeful Adam Radwan's Six Nations bid dashed by injury
In-form Adam Radwan’s hopes of breaking into England’s Six Nations squad have been dashed by injury.
The Leicester flier was pushing hard for inclusion after back-to-back try doubles against Saracens and Bayonne over the past two weekends.
However Leicester head coach Geoff Parling has revealed the 28-year-old has a “lower leg” issue and faces surgery which could sideline him for the entire championship.
“He’s had a scan, he’s meeting the surgeon very soon. We won’t know the exact details until he’s had that surgery but it’s more of a medium-term injury than a short-term one,” said Parling.
“He’s been in cracking form but we’ve got some other wingers – Gabe Hamer-Webb, did very well last week, Ollie Hassell-Collins is a great winger… I think we’ve generally got a good stable of exciting outside backs.”
Radwan has scored 20 tries in 24 matches for the Tigers since joining them from Newcastle 13 months ago, reviving his hopes he might pull on an England jersey again.
Last capped against Tonga four years ago, he was involved for England A in the autumn against the New Zealand second string.
His electric pace and finishing ability has turned heads across the Prem this season.
“How is Radwan not in top 4 English wingers?” tweeted former England international Austin Healey last month.
Steve Borthwick actually named six other wingers in his squad in the autumn – Manny Feyi-Waboso, Tommy Freeman, Tom Roebuck, Henry Arundell, Cadan Murley and Noah Caluori.
Radwan had made a strong case to break into that group in recent weeks but those hopes have now sadly evaporated.
Borthwick names his Six Nations squad on Friday, January 23.
