Los Pumas 7s warm up for Singapore with Mar del Plata triumph
Los Pumas 7s have prepared for HSBC SVNS Series stops in Singapore and Perth with a Mar del Plata Super Sevens win.
Argentina head coach Santiago Gómez Cora selected a squad with varied experience for the tournament hosted at Newbery Athletic on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.
Over the course of two days, Los Pumas conceded only two tries as the side progressed to beat Uruguay 33-0 in the final.
So far this season on the HSBC SVNS Series, Argentina have had mixed fortunes. On the opening weekend in Dubai the side finished dead last at a tournament to forget in the desert.
The side quickly rallied a week later in Cape Town as the team finished as runners-up to Philip Snyman’s South Africa in a dramatic final on the Western Cape.
Luciano Gonzalez was a star performer for the team and was a major influence for his team at Mar del Plata Super Sevens too.
Along with fellow World Rugby Men’s Sevens Player of the Year, Marcos Moneta, Gonzalez will hope to put Dubai further into the rearview mirror in the coming weeks.
For Singapore, Los Pumas have been named in Pool B with New Zealand, Australia and France.
Last week the side gathered at Camarones Rugby Club in Pinamar for a final training camp ahead of their travels to Singapore and Perth where they will continue the HSBC SVNS Series.
