Canada duo 'excited' for SVNS' Vancouver stop this March
Canada’s Krissy Scurfield and Flo Symonds are “excited” to play in front of home support when the HSBC SVNS Series returns to Vancouver.
Speaking to Jason Pires on Global News Morning BC, the pair beamed as tickets went on sale for Vancouver SVNS, which takes place between 7-8 March.
Vancouver SVNS will be the penultimate stop of the 2025/26 HSBC SVNS Series season ahead of the World Championship Series, which takes place between April and June in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux.
“Having a stop at home is super-special,” Scurfield said. “There is only so many tournaments that we have year round, so to be able to host one in Canada is pretty incredible in itself.
“Having the ability to play in front of our family and all the Canadians across Canada has been an amazing experience in past years. I think it is super exciting to be able to do that again this year – to have the opportunity for the next three years to do that – so if you have the opportunity to come out, it is an atmosphere that you definitely don’t want to miss.”
Flo Symonds was one of the players that helped Canada to a runners-up finish at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
As Kévin Rouet’s side battled to the last two of the competition, support grew rapidly across Canada and Vancouver SVNS will offer supporters a first opportunity to see some of their Women’s Rugby World Cup stars back on home soil.
Symonds has missed the start of the new HSBC SVNS Series season with injury. She is expected to be named in the squad for Vancouver by head coach, Jocelyn Barrieau, in just under two months’ time.
During her recovery the 23-year-old has experienced first-hand the impact of Canada’s success on the world stage, which doubled down on the Women’s Sevens team’s silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Thank you to Global BC and Jason Pires for having Krissy Scurfield and Florence Symonds on this morning to talk HSBC Vancouver Sevens! We can’t wait to welcome the world to BC Place for the tournament’s 11th season.

“The other week at UBC we had our National Championships and this new rugby camp for girls to try rugby,” Symonds said.
“A lot of new faces came out and said how they had seen us on TV and they wanted to come out and play some rugby. It was awesome to meet the young generation and chuck a ball around with them.”
After two legs of the 2025/26 HSBC SVNS Series season Canada sit seventh overall. Back-t0-back sixth-place finishes in Dubai and Cape Town means there is plenty to play for in the four remaining regular season stops.
Already the side have named a strong squad for upcoming tournaments in Singapore and Perth, which includes the return of Women’s Rugby World Cup stars Liv Apps, Alysha Corrigan and Gabby Senft.
“It’s a new season every year,” Scurfield said. “Every tournament we have new players, so there is a lot of developing going on which is amazing.
“We have a lot of players from the last Olympics coming back as well, so it is a fantastic mix of that incredible talent coming in and the more experienced players coming together.
“It has been really fun and I think the team going into Singapore looks really good and everyone is super excited to take on another two tournaments.”
