All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has confirmed pair Luke Jacobson and Leroy Carter left the field with injuries against Italy.

Left winger Leroy Carter battled through a shoulder injury early in the game with his final involvement coming with his try assist to Will Jordan.

With just one working arm, Carter pulled in a grubber kick before an unnatural one-hand pass inside to Jordan as he dealt with an AC injury to his left shoulder.

“It’s a little AC,” Rennie said of Carter, “We’re not we’re not sure the severity, but we called him off to get Josh [Moorby] on, and but play continued.

“So that last pass that he threw, not a bad effort with a with a crook wing.”

Rennie said that Luke Jacobson was pulled off as a precaution after the openside flanker dealt with cramps late in the first half.

“He was just cramping up a little bit in the calf, and we just thought we weren’t going to risk it,” he said.

“So it was sort of about two or three minutes before half time, so he got through, and I thought we’d let the young fella loose.”

The silver lining of the early substitutions meant that debutants Josh Moorby and Anton Segner were sent into action early, with Moorby playing for 59 minutes and Segner for 40.

“I got the nod at half time, you don’t really have too much time to process it, you sort of switch into the moment,” Segner said.

“Through out tonight and over the next couple of minutes, I’ve yet to see my family, I think it will really start to sink in.”

“I thought we really stepped up, credit to the Italians in the first half, I thought physically they dominated us.”
