It wasn’t to be for France despite their strong start, as Les Bleues faded over the following 70 minutes, with England quickly regaining control to secure a 43–28 victory and another Guinness Women’s Six Nations title.

François Ratier’s side conceded a 17th consecutive loss to England, despite the tireless efforts of Pauline Bourdon Sansus, Léa Champon and Madoussou Fall Raclot.

Here are the ratings from Bordeaux:

15. Pauline Barrat – 5

It was never going to be an easy day for Pauline Barrat, but the French full-back wasn’t able to turn out when her team needed her the most.

Beyond the tactical errors that opened the door for Ellie Kildunne and Jess Breach, Barrat lost control of the ball on three occasions, appearing detached from the game for much of the time, which contributed to the outcome.

14. Anaïs Grando – 7

Another try for the 23-year-old winger who was adamant that she was going to create problems for the English outside back trio. Although she had just a few opportunities to run with the ball with space, Grando was an all-out threat for France, completing a couple of clean breaks and beating five defenders.

13. Aubane Rousset – 7

Bagged two staggering clean breaks that pushed France deep inside England’s 22, assisting Anaïs Grando for the winger’s only finish of the game. Looked far more comfortable in her role compared to her centre pairing partner.

12. Téani Feleu – 6

It wasn’t an uninspiring performance per se, but it wasn’t a positive one, as Téani Feleu was easily read by the English, looking off the pace in some of England’s best plays. In the end, Gabrielle Vernier’s absence had an overall impact on France’s play, particularly on its defence against teams like England.

11. Léa Murie – 6.5

Every time Léa Murie had a chance to run with the oval ball, France edged closer to creating something special, with the winger involved in several key plays that sowed problems for the opposition. Would’ve finished with a higher rating if not for the fact that two English tries were nailed on her side of the aisle.

10. Carla Arbez – 6.5

It was a mixed game for Carla Arbez, as the French playmaker tried to figure out a way to escape from the clutches of the English defence, but most of the time to no avail. Carla Arbez. Defensively, she made several tactical errors that England capitalised on, most notably a persistent lack of communication with Pauline Barrat.

9. Pauline Bourdon Sansus – 8.5

Kept the home side alive even when they were at their worst. There are a few players with the ability to rise their team from the brink of death, with an experienced scrum half finding a way to drive their team closer to the English in-goal area. Scored two tries and showcased again why she is the bread and butter of a French team.

1. Ambre Mwayembe – 6

Ambre Mwayembe had a strong showing at scrum time, but not as much in her work around the breakdown, conceding a penalty that Sarah Bern capitalised. However, the loosehead prop made the turnover that ended with Pauline Bourdon Sansus scoring France’s first try, performing well in her tackling duties.

2. Mathilde Lazarko – 5

Not the best of performances in her lineout duties, with Mathilde Lazarko misplacing four throws that helped England gain control of the game in the opening half. However, the hooker was a workhorse for France, sacrificing her body in more than a handful of instances to help her home side keep control of the ball.

3. Assia Khalfaoui – 5

A performance riddled with several handling mistakes and defensive errors that helped make the difference in a game of tight margins. While her scrummaging effort deserves to be praised, the Stade Bordelais prop was far from the level that she showed in previous rounds.

4. Siobhan Soqeta – 6.5

True grit from Siobhan Soqeta with the lock putting out a positive game, even if France failed in their bid to land a championship victory.

5. Madoussou Fall Raclot – 8.5

A colossal game from one of the players of this year’s tournament. Few words truly capture Madoussou Fall Raclot’s performance against England, as the lock delivered a monumental display, registering a match-high 18 carries, completing 17 tackles, and securing a turnover—an extraordinary effort that helped France regain momentum in the second half.

Related

6. Axelle Berthoumieu – 5

Was bossed around in the ruck and allowed a few English carriers to slip through her fingers. Was the first player to be subbed off in what was a lacklustre performance.

7. Manae Feleu – 7

France’s skipper worked to the limit, making several important tackles, but to no avail as France were not able to front up when it mattered most. Despite trying to lead the team in the most critical moments, there was a sense that Feleu was going with the flow of the game, unable to find a way to wake up or inspire her teammates to believe that a comeback was on the cards.

8. Leá Champon – 8.5

Léa Champon fought valiantly, acting as France’s main ball carrier, holding her own and driving back the English tacklers to give her team a more reliable platform to attack the English defence. Her physicality and determination helped reignite Les Bleues after the break, consistently winning the gain line, getting back to her feet quickly, and being ready to go again.

Replacements

16. Elisa Riffonneau – 6

Good shift in the scrum to fight back against England’s set-piece dominance.

17. Yilana Brosseau – 6

Far better than Mathilde Lazarko in the lineout, Yilana Brosseau brought more stability to the lineout in a time when the visiting side held a comfortable lead.

18. Rose Bernadou – 7

Scored a try in the game’s dying seconds while looking strong as a scrum operator.

19. Kiara Zago – 6

Made a cascade of tackles since coming on and gave some work to the English lineout.

20. Cloé Correa – N/A

21. Charlotte Escudero – 6

One of the most questionable decisions by France’s staff was Charlotte Escudero’s injection of cohesion and a more menacing profile into the Les Bleues pack. Made an impact from the first second she was brought in, collecting a turnover and five successful tackle attempts.

22. Alexandra Chambon – 4

Brought immediate intensity but was sent off for a high tackle, making an already difficult task even harder for her side.

23. Lina Queyroi – 5

Tried to bring more aggression to the French attack, but came in at a moment where chaos had already crept into the game.
