The Crusaders (formerly known as Canterbury Crusaders and BNZ Crusaders) are one of New Zealand's finest rugby franchises. In the short history of the Super Rugby competition, the Crusaders Rugby team have won the tournament 10 times. Given how dominant the side are now, it's hard to believe that the Crusaders Rugby team struggled in the early days of Super Rugby (then known as the Super 12). In fact, in their first ever season in the competition, the Crusaders Rugby team came last.However, they soon found their footing. In the next season, the Crusaders Rugby team finished sixth and then they never looked back. From here, they won three titles in a row between 1998 and 2000 despite all three finals being away from home. Ever since, the Crusaders have been almost untouchable in the competition. In fact, since 2002, there has only been one season when the team hasn't at least made the knockout rounds of the competition. They've also been in the final on all but seven occasions. In most of these years, the team reached the semi-final stage.
Due to the team's continued success, a number of the game's great players have represented the Crusaders and the All Blacks, including Pat Lam, Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.At present, the Crusaders Rugby team contains a number of established international stars, including lock Sam Whitelock who has been capped by New Zealand more than 120 times. The team also includes New Zealand hooker Codie Taylor and prop Joe Moody, who both have more than 50 caps for the national team.
