Western Force re-sign Australia A fullback Mac Grealy on multi-year deal

Australia A representative Mac Grealy will remain out west for another two Super Rugby Pacific seasons, inking a new deal with the Force until 2028. This update comes after Grealy shone for the Force in last weekend’s 42-19 win over the Queensland Reds in Brisbane.

Heralded as a generational talent at Queensland’s Downlands College, Grealy initially played 26 games for the Reds before making the move to the west coast. Grealy enjoyed a stellar debut season with the Force, which led to higher honours.

Grealy was selected in the AUNZ Invitational XV squad to face the British & Irish Lions last July and chosen to start at fullback for Australia A, scoring one try in a comprehensive 71-7 win over Japan XV in October.

The 24-year-old has carried that form into the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific campaign, starting in all five appearances for Simon Cron’s side, including a Player of the Match-calibre performance against the Reds.

Grealy scored a try of the season contender, carried the ball 10 times and ran for a game-high 78 metres on the night. As coach Cron explained, Toowoomba-born Grealy has become in integral part of the Force lineup.

“Mac had an amazing season in 2025 including making Australia A,” Cron said.

“He continues to be an important cog in our team as you saw from his standout performance on Saturday.

“He brings a lot of humour to the team which is great for the culture. He’s still young with plenty of upside.

“He’s a great player and a great man, who is always wanting to learn and is very receptive to feedback which makes coaching him a pleasure.”

Grealy received a last-minute call-up to debut for the Reds against the Blues on June 4, 2021, lining up at fullback for Brad Thorn’s side. Wallabies duo Filipo Daugunu and Suliasi Vunivalu were also named in the outside backs.

After making a couple of appearances that season, Grealy became a more-regular member of the matchday 23 the next season. Grealy’s final match for the Reds was a two-try outing against Warren Gatland’s Wales in Brisbane.

But Grealy has gone to another level since making the move out west, finishing the 2025 season second overall for metres gained (878) and sixth for defenders beaten with 41, having played both fullback and on the wing.

“I’m super stoked to be staying on board at the Force for the next two years. I’ve really enjoyed my time in the west so far and am looking forward to staying here long term,” Grealy explained.

“It’s obviously hard to beat the Perth lifestyle, particularly in summer. For me, I really believe I’ve found the place where I play my best footy. Since coming over I’ve built so many strong relationships with so many players and staff and I look forward to continuing to grow them.

“Personally, I want to leave a mark in the west, I didn’t want to be someone who used this place as a stepping stone. I want to help bring success to this franchise and believe we’ve got the people to do it.

“I believe the club is in a great spot to continue to grow moving forward. There’s a great mix of youth and experience in the group, and a lot of blokes who love being in the west and want to win.

“A lot of us have now spent a fair bit of time here and those connections will go a long way in us winning a lot more games. I believe the weekend is only just the start of us showing what we can do as a group and that’s really exciting moving forward.”
