Darcy Graham: 'It'd be nice to go to Ireland and get that win'
Darcy Graham said Scotland always believed they could beat France after their remarkable victory in Edinburgh, describing the 90-point thriller as a “crazy” game and one of the most special wins of his career.
“If I had said at the start of the day Scotland would beat France, stick 50 points on them and be level with them at the top of the Six Nations table, would you believe me?,” asked the BBC’s Sonja McLaughlan.
“Uh, yes, I would have,” said Graham. “Uh, no, that game was crazy. A 90 point game, it’s unheard of, especially France. Like, you know what they’re like, such a big unit, such a quality team, and who knew what they were going to bring today, and I think we done really well to stop it.
“That was such an open game from minute one. It probably took us about 20 minutes to find our legs a wee bit, but yeah, that’s a special win for us.”
Asked if Scotland thought back to their autumn defeat to Argentina when they failed to close out a strong position, Graham said the squad were focused purely on the next moment in the game.
“Yeah, I don’t think we kind of thought about that at all. We were just about talking about the next play and winning those small moments and stacking them on top of each other and that ends up becoming a big moment,” said the British & Irish Lions tourist.
“So it was just about the next job and kind of keeping the pressure on them but credit to France. We knew they were going to start running, chucking the ball about that last 20 minutes and they did and they obviously came back but enough to hold on.”
The result leaves Scotland firmly in the championship picture heading into the final round, where they travel to Dublin to face Ireland.
“Confidence is right up there probably the most it’s been. Probably the most enjoyable camp, like everybody’s loving life coming in and playing, training hard and it’s been really good campaign so far.
“So it’d be nice to go to Ireland and get that win. It’s all to play for next weekend.”
