Wales captain Williams to miss remainder of Women's Six Nations

In their most recent squad update Wales have confirmed that the team’s captain, Kate Williams, will miss the remainder of the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

Williams left Wales’ 38-7 loss to Wales in Round 2 of the Women’s Six Nations early with a calf injury. After further assessment it has been decided that the 26-year-old will miss matches against Ireland and Italy.

Bethan Lewis, who captained Wales in there 62-24 loss to England’s Red Roses in Round 3, will captain the side for the remainder of the Women’s Six Nations.

The loss of Williams will be a significant one to Wales. Having lost matches to Scotland, France and England to start this year’s Championship, the side are on track for a third wooden spoon in as many Women’s Six Nations campaigns.

Wales boss, Sean Lynn, has also called Freya Bell and Amy Williams into his squad. Bell made her debut for Wales against England in Bristol a week ago and had represented Wales Under-21s in their 76-5 loss to France U21 in the opening round of the U21 Women’s Series.

There is also a place for full-back Amy Williams in the squad. A former Cardiff City youngster, Williams turns out for Cardiff Metropolitan University in BUCS competition and has even represented Great Britain Sevens on the HSBC SVNS Series this season.

It has also been confirmed that wing Catherine Richards has sustained a “serious knee injury” and will miss the remainder of the Women’s Six Nations.

Richards was on the pitch for five minuted before being helped off the pitch by medical staff while in significant discomfort. Scrum-half Seren Lockwood replaced the 25-year-old and completed the match out of position on the wing.

In Round 4, Wales travel to Belfats’s Affidea Stadium where they will be hosted by an Ireland side smarting after a 26-7 loss to France in Clermont.
