The 'main' Harlequins goal after a wretched Gallagher PREM season

Harlequins boss Jason Gilmore believes that his side has one or two more shock results left in the final few weeks of the season as they chase qualification for next season’s Champions Cup.

Quins, who recently pulled off a surprise 18-14 win over Bristol Bears at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, need to finish in eighth place or higher to mix with Europe’s big guns again next season.

And they are currently ninth, a point behind Gloucester, with five games left to play, and Gilmore feels that his squad, which has been ravaged by injuries this season, has got another good performance or two left in them.

“We’re obviously in a battle for the Champions Cup. That’s the main one that we’re aiming for, and that’s taking priority at the moment. How many wins we can get for the rest of this season will be important.

“It’d be disappointing if we don’t get there because I thought we had a reasonable Champions Cup run this year. Obviously, the league hasn’t gone our way by any stretch, but I thought we probably played our best rugby in Europe this year.

“So that’s a competition that the club’s proud to play in and one we want to stay in. We’re certainly chasing, and I firmly believe we’ve still got a couple of good results left in us,” said Gilmore.

Gilmore admits that Quins are taking a good look at their game at the moment. Some changes can be made immediately but some will have to wait until pre?season later this summer.

“We’re having a really good look at our game at the moment. Our squad, how we’re coaching it. There are certain things that we want to get out of the rest of this year.

“There are probably a couple of areas that I’m looking at, but how much of that we can affect right now. Probably some of it to a certain extent; others we need to wait for the pre?season,” he added.
