Finn Russell has been passed fit to play as Scotland attempt to win five consecutive games against England for the first time in the 154-year history of the fixture.

Russell clashed heads with teammate Darcy Graham in the early stages of the 32-18 home defeat to Ireland in round two, and while he has been declared fit to play, after passing the necessary concussion protocols, the winger misses out.

Kyle Rowe comes in for Graham on the right wing, Pierre Schoeman has been restored to the starting 15 with Rory Sutherland selected as a replacement, and former captain Jamie Ritchie is selected to start in the back row in place of Matt Fagerson.

Rowe, capped 10 times for Scotland, made his debut in 2022 against Argentina and played in four out of five of last year’s Guinness Six Nations matches, including starts at full-back in the first two rounds. The 27-year-old’s only previous Test start on the wing was against Uruguay in the summer.

In the back three, accompanying Rowe, is the familiar sight of Blair Kinghorn at full-back and Duhan van der Merwe on the wing.

Glasgow Warriors duo, Huw Jones and Tom Jordan resume their centre partnership with Ben White and Russell teaming up again at half-back.

In the forwards, Zander Fagerson will accompany Schoeman in the front row along with Dave Cherry, who makes his third start in a row. Cherry, who will make his 14th appearance for Scotland, debuted against England in the 2021 victory at the Allianz Stadium, Scotland’s first there over England in 38 years.

Other than Ritchie swapping jerseys with Fagerson, who drops to the bench, the rest of the forward pack is unchanged from the Ireland defeat in round two.

Grant Gilchrist and Jonny Gray pair up again in the second row, with the latter set to make an 80th appearance for Scotland. Blindside flanker Ritchie is joined by co-captain Rory Darge at openside and No8 Jack Dempsey in the back row.

Nations Championship: 'The data shows the north has finally caught up with the south'

The Six Nations produced so many compelling games and so much of action packed moments that you can only conclude that its the best international comp out there at the moment except for a world cup. If Wales improve it will be even better especially given the strides Italy have made in recent times. The Rugby Championship is now taking a hiatus in a year it really should be building toward something better which is terrible considering the competition was so tight last year. The Nations Champs promises much but one gets the feeling that the 6 Nations teams will not be at their peak given its at the end of their long season. In terms of rugby quality and entertainment Id rather watch the 6 Nations over everything else other than a world cup right now. The North arguably offers more in terms of entertainment than the South at club level as well. The Prem, the Champs Cup, URC and Top 14 all feature plenty of scoring and different playing styles while Super Rugby seems to be the same thing game in game out. While the South tries to speed up the game artificially with new trials and law variations the North has shown you can do it with good refereeing which penalises cynical play harshly and encourages positive actions on the field. In terms of entertainment the North wins. In terms of winning? They are making strides but until they win another world cup or get a team to rank number 1 again for an extended time again they cant really say they are better than the South.
