Ireland internationals Paddy McCarthy and Jordan Larmour have both been registered as additional players for Leinster ahead of the Investec Champions Cup final against Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday.

Loosehead prop McCarthy has not played since injuring his foot in the Champions Cup pool stage victory over La Rochelle in Leinster’s second match of 2026 – an injury which required surgery. It was initially feared that he would miss the entire season, but he has returned to training in time for the final and the United Rugby Championship play-offs, where Leinster host the Lions in the quarter-finals next week.

While McCarthy has been out, Leinster have endured an injury crisis at loosehead, and at one stage only had one fit prop available, Jerry Cahir. Another prop that joined their injury list was Alex Usanov, who injured his ankle in the quarter-final win over Sale Sharks. Though fit again, he has been deregistered to accommodate the four-cap 22-year-old in the squad.

Larmour made his return to action last week after five months out with a hamstring injury sustained in a two-try player-of-the-match Champions Cup performance against Harlequins in December.

The winger’s return has seen Joshua Kenny deregistered, with both changes being reversals of ones made earlier in the season.

This decision taken by Leo Cullen suggests both will have a part to play against Bordeaux at Bilbao’s San Mamés Stadium on Saturday, though an injury update made by Leinster earlier this week stated the prop will “further assessed with a decision on their availability to be made later in the week.”

In-form Ireland wing Tommy O’Brien is also facing a late fitness test to see if he can make the final after being forced to withdraw from the recent URC win over the Ospreys shortly before kick-off after receiving a knock in training.

How do Australia fit both ‘fetchers’ in side? Could ‘McZano’ be next ‘Pooper’ combo?

Apologies, I haven’t read it all, short on time being Friday and I will loose the comment if I don’t respond quickly to other threads.

But I see you misunderstand when people refer to not having an identity. They are talking about the team’s own identity, as we have been trying to play like other nations. These coaches had an identity, but it was an identity they had brought from another country and pushed it onto the Wallabies, and the results speak for themselves. Under JS we formed an identity, be it very Irish without Sexton and the 9, but the reality is he had a win/lose record of 38%, and I think over the 2025 and 2026 seasons he ran at 33%. Happy to be corrected, but I know it is in that ballpark. DR again was coaching a SR NZ-style high-speed rugby, with a win/lose record of 36%, and the state of the way we played got to the point where the Brumbies coaching team had to be brought in. Now we can say what we want, but if we go back in time, the complaints were heavily around the style of game we played under both these coaches. Now I understand people get excited by a rare win over SA last year, and we jagged a win in a Lions series after the Lions had already wrapped it up. This is great…but we lost, and we every game around these games….We all saw the Wallabies playing too one-dimensional and without width under JS and we all saw we tried to beat the ABs playing their own game (we had no chance of playing this without the conditioning below the Wallabies level) under DR, and both failed.
