Ban confirmed: Canada prop learns fate after Scotland red card

Canada prop Brittany Kassil has been banned for three matches after her red card against Scotland in her team’s WXV Global Series opener.

The ban will be reduced to two matches upon the successful completion of World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme.

As things stand, the 35-year-old loosehead prop will miss this weekend’s replay of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 final against England, next week’s clash with France in La Rochelle and her team’s first home Test of October, against England at Toronto’s BMO Field.

Kassil received a red card for an offence contrary to Law 9.13, dangerous tabling, following an upgrade by the Foul Play Review Officer.

Despite the red card, Canada ran out 64-26 winners against Scotland in their first WXV Global Series fixture of September. Canada scored 10 tries ay Hive Stadium, with Olivia Apps named Mitsubishi Electric Player of the Week for her exploits in the victory.

For this weekend’s clash with the Red Roses in Exeter, Canada head coach Kévin Rouet has made a handful of changes to his starting XV.

This includes the return of incumbent World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year, Sophie de Goede, to the team after her supporting role last weekend in the Scottish capital.

Mikiela Nelson has been named to start at loosehead prop in Kassil’s absence. Sophie McDonald, who made her debut from the bench last week, is in reserve among the replacements.

Kassil accepted that foul play had occurred and that the red card sanction was warranted after a head-t0-head collision with a Scotland player. Mitigation reduced the usual six-game ban for head contact to three games.

The 35-year-old had her case heard on Monday 14 September by an Independent Foul Play Review Committee.

Fiji men’s player Isoa Nasilasila received a one-match ban for the red card he received against Canada last weekend in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup 2026 fixture against Canada.
