Known more commonly by his nickname ‘Flats’, David Flatman made more than 100 appearances for both Saracens and Bath during his long and distinguished career. In addition, he was also capped eight times by his country between 2000 and 2002. Today, he’s known for his punditry work and successful podcast.
Born 21 January 1980, David Flatman started playing rugby for Maidstone at the age of eight. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of his father, who was also a prop. Throughout his junior career, he was highly distinguished and he regularly toured with England Schools, England Colts and England U21s.
In 1998, David Flatman began his domestic career with Saracens. He stayed with the side until 2003 and made 109 appearances for the club. Following this, he signed for Bath, where he stayed until his retirement in 2012.
Thanks to his impressive performances for Saracens, David Flatman was capped eight times by England between 2000 and 2002.
At the end of his playing career in 2012, David Flatman became Head of Communications at Bath. However, he left the role in 2014. Now, he’s best known as a pundit for various media platforms and he also hosts a rugby podcast with his former Saracens teammate Tom Shanklin. In 2016, the Daily Telegraph named him as the fifth best sports pundit on British television.
