Based on 2025 games, the best AB centre performance was vs SCO with QT/LF in the centres together . . . . So makes perfect sense to then break them up the following week and put LF on the left wing against a team that likes to kick for aerial contests that is not his skill set.

If you take a moment to digest that JW, it may help explain why the coach got fired after that game for a lack of “trajectory”.

Lord and Darry are basically in the mould of Franco Mostert. Hardly power locks. Holland is the only promising young lock in that group. Tuipolotu is a very short term option, and has had many injury breakdowns? Breakout Player of the Year is commendable. The issue has been the make up of the combination. Trying to make a space for Ardie has been the issue. He doesn’t go yo the dark places like Sam Cane used to, so not a true 7 in the NZ mould. Not a true 6 like Kaino and hardly an 8 like Read. So building the trio around him is always weakening the AB’s

All of Boks, England, and France have power locks aplenty. This is where the NZ pack is getting hammered.

Totally agree, he was one of the highlights of 2025 season. I strongly suspect he will be a mainstay in the 13 shirt going forward, he’s one of the best ball carriers around at the moment and the AB’s would certainly benefit from a few of those.

I think every Premiership club would be happy to sign South African players, the reality is in the current climate they can’t compete with the offers from SA, FRA & Japan, hence the gradual migration.

The Premiership has been focussed on moneyball since Covid, you basically have the best part of £7m to pay 41 players under the salary cap, hence why there are so many academy players filling the squads since Covid.

I don’t know, a locking cohort of Holland, Vaai, Tuipolotu and Barret with Lord and Darry waiting in the wings is pretty good depth. There’s enough to work with surely, if SA, FRA or ENG have better it’s not by a mile

The same can be said of the loosies, how many teams have a recent breakout player of the year and world player of the year at their disposal? Of course the players could always be better and there are some seriously good loosies in world rugby right now (especially at 6).

It’s been an interesting shift from the Premiership being the preferred location to potentially Japan, which is really down to 3 reasons.

The reality is that SA forwards are the absolute superstars, where there probably have 6/8 in the World XV and there were more forwards playing in England than backs.

Absolutely did. Under Foster/ Schmidt they never lost to Argentina, never lost a Rugby Championship, scrummed better, backline was coherent, and the team as a whole were just more physically dominant. There’s no argument here, it’s a fact.

Please see my reply above HH - I’ve given a 6 year overview of what I saw in the Premiership and I promise you those clubs wouldn’t hesitate to sign those same players if they could.

In the case of my club, Thomas Du Toit has been one of our best players, plays most weeks when he is available, occasionally does a shift on both sides of the scrum and has improved the other squad players at the club.

So an ageing player with a long career history doesn’t get injured?

I’d say PSDT is up there with Furlong at the moment, injured for his province yet OK for the Lions & Autumn Internationals but has played like 45 mins of rugby this season so far and they are trying to bring back (desperately) for the 6 Nations.

Please read my article above based on my experience from the Premiership. We have only benefitted from having the SA players at our clubs and one day I hope they all return again.
