New England head coach Steve Borthwick has taken a not inconsiderable selection departure from Eddie Jones – with a slew of players omitted from his competitive squad as head coach.

There’s a total of 15 players who were named in the England Autumn Nations Series squad who – for various reasons – have not made Borthwick’s 2023 Guinness Six Nations squad.

The omissions of Billy Vunipola, Jack Nowell and Jonny May will grab the headlines, but there a plenty of wider squad members who have been axed.

Although he wasn’t included in the previous Test squad, there is no room for Bath centre Ollie Lawrence despite his fine form for Bath. There is however a recall for France-bound Harlequins centre Joe Marchant.

As well as Marchant; Haskell-Collins, Fin Smith, Ben Earl, Ben Curry, Dan Kelly, Dan Cole, Alex Dombrandt, Elliot Daly, Caden Murley and Max Malins have all been called up.

Hassell-Collins, McGuigan, Murley and Jack Walker are all uncapped.

There are also injuries to the likes of Tom Curry, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Henry Arundell, Jack Singleton and Raffi Quirke.

England’s opening game is the Calcutta Cup fixture against Scotland on Saturday 4 February.
