Perks of being with Reds too good to leave behind for Lachie Anderson

Lachie Anderson has re-signed with the Reds for another two years, looking to add to his 11 tries and 27 appearances for the team.

The winger was born and raised in Sydney before making his Super Rugby debut with the Rebels, for whom he scored his first 14 tries in Super Rugby. He shifted north in 2025 after the Rebels’ demise.

The three-time Australia A representative now holds the Reds record for most tries in a single match, having scored four in a match-up with the Fijian Drua last May. He’s been named for his sixth start of the season this week against that same opponent in Brisbane.

The 28-year-old has also spent time with the Australia Sevens team and competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

When assessing options for the next chapter in his rugby journey, Anderson ultimately couldn’t look beyond the life he has at Ballymore.

“The locker room we have is a big factor in wanting to stay at the Reds,” said Anderson. “It’s a great group of boys, tight on the field and also off it.

“The depth in the squad has definitely grown in my time at the club. Seeing so many players re-sign shows the strong belief that is shared about the Reds and what we can achieve this season and into the future.”

Queensland player #1399 is happy to be in the hunt for Super Rugby glory with one of the competition’s growing contenders.

“The environment at the Reds has encouraged personal growth and the development of my rugby in a top team,” Anderson added.

“For me, it’s about chasing consistency, growth and doing the full 80 minutes well.

“It’s funny. Years ago, I spoke to Les Kiss when he was at London Irish, and I’ve ended up playing under him as a coach at the Reds.

“Les has been very encouraging around players being themselves. On top of that is how committed Les, Brad (Davis), ‘Choc’ (Zane Hilton) and ‘Fish’ (Jonathan Fisher) have been as a coaching group to keep us improving.”

The Queensland club’s efforts to connect with the international rugby community have provided Anderson with opportunities not found elsewhere. He’s faced the Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights, Bristol, Wales, the British & Irish Lions and Tonga twice in the Reds jersey.

“The Reds are at the forefront of Super Rugby in creating these opportunities. They remind you that rugby is a worldwide game and it’s great incentive,” Anderson reflected.

“At the back end of this year, there is a great development opportunity for players with games in Japan and Italy.”

Great News for him and the Reds. Already better than any of the mungo players brought over by RA. Let’s hope common sense prevails and the best players get selected for the Wallabies rather than those paid more but not performing as well on the field. To be fair I think Pietsch and Jorgensen are both better wingers than him, but Jorgensen playing at 15 is fast playing himself out of gold and I’d have Anderson as a squad backup for sure.
