The Chiefs have secured the services of workhorse prop Jared Proffit for another two years, ensuring he remains in Chiefs colours until 2028.

The 32-year-old debuted for the club in 2023 against Moana Pasifika, and has been a dependable front-row forward when called upon in the years since.

Now with 33 Super Rugby caps to his name, including one Hurricanes appearance in 2022, Proffit has enjoyed a career-high level of involvement in the 2026 season, stepping up in the absence of Aidan Ross, who left Hamilton to join the Reds after last season.

His sevens starts in 2026 are more than each of his previous seasons with the team combined.

“It was a good opportunity to get a bit of game time, and I think it helps with the confidence having more games under the belt. I’ve been stoked with the amount of game time I’ve had,” Proffit said.

“My focus is always just working hard, trying to out-work others, just using every opportunity you get.”

The prop said that putting pen to paper on a new contract was an easy decision.

“It’s good to get some stability for the family. And I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else, so it’s a privilege to be able to re-sign here.”

In 2026, Proffit has the chance to become a centurion with Taranaki in the NPC and add to his two Maori All Blacks caps.

Chiefs Head Coach Jono Gibbes was thrilled to extend Proffit’s time in Hamilton, saying he epitomised the club’s values.

“Jared is a hugely trusted and respected member of this group. He works hard, is consistent in his performances, and has a huge work rate.

“He exemplifies a lot of the things we love about the Gallagher Chiefs, qualities that we think we stand for.”
