Dual international prop Mackenzie Carson has signed a new contract at Kingsholm Stadium to extend her stay with Gloucester Hartpury.

The 27-year-old Women’s Rugby World Cup winner joined the Circus ahead of the 2023/24 season and has won two Premiership Women’s Rugby titles with the club.

Before joining Gloucester Hartpury, Carson had represented Bristol Bears and Saracens in England’s top flight, and even won three caps for Canada before switching national allegiances to the Red Roses in 2023.

Last weekend, in her club’s 41-39 loss to Trailfinders Women, Carson made her first appearance for Gloucester Hartpury for 14 months after an Achilles injury restricted her time on the pitch for the three-time PWR champions.

“I’m incredibly happy to be staying at Gloucester Hartpury,” Carson said. “From the moment I arrived, the club felt like home and it’s an environment that allows me to be myself while continually challenging me to become a better player.

“The ambition throughout the group is something that’s really special. Everyone is committed to improving, pushing standards and helping each other succeed, and that’s a huge part of why I wanted to stay.

“After undergoing double tendon surgery on my Achilles last year, it’s been incredibly rewarding to get back out on the pitch and do what I love again. The support I’ve received from the players, coaches and staff throughout my recovery has been amazing, and I’m excited for what’s ahead as we approach the business end of the season.”

Used sparingly in England’s Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 victory, Carson proved to be a major figure for the Red Roses at this year’s Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

The 27-year-old was involved in all five of England’s matches of the Championship and started matches against Wales and France.

Dan Murphy, Gloucester Hartpury’s Head of Rugby, said: “Mackenzie has made a huge impact since arriving at Gloucester Hartpury. She’s an exceptional athlete and a world-class prop, but what has impressed us most is her appetite to improve and the standards she sets every day.

“She has embraced everything that makes this club special, both on and off the field, and has become an important leader within our environment. We’re delighted that she’ll continue her journey with us and we’re excited to see what she can achieve over the coming seasons.”
