England U21 Women squad named for four-day Bisham Abbey camp
England U21 Women head coach LJ Lewis has named a 34-player squad that will take part in a four-day training camp at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.
The side – who are assisted by Saracens and ex-England full-back Sarah McKenna – gather on Thursday 15 January and will meet up again next week at Loughborough University’s Elite Athlete Centre as the midseason Premiership Women’s Rugby break continues.
There are places for Sophie Hopkins, Jasmine Adroni, Keevy Fitzpatrick, Haidee Head, Hayley Jones, Haineala Lutui and Annabel Meta, who were all called into John Mitchell’s senior Red Roses camp earlier this week.
Hopkins, along with Poppy Love and Lucy Simpson, have been reintegrated into the squad as three of 18 capped squad members. Former U18 Women’s caps Katherine Dyke, Aisha Jah and Eva Ladyman have joined the setup at Bisham Abbey.
Zoe Dare is also recalled to the squad after she was a late replacement for Joia Bennett in the last camp.
Ashton Adcock, Ellen Scantlebury and Solana Shaw de Leon, who have all gained playing experience with Great Britain Sevens on the HSBC SVNS Series are also named in Lewis’ squad.
LJ Lewis, England U21 Women head coach, said: “Throughout the upcoming two-week block, we’re aiming to build on the momentum created in our opening camp of the season in Loughborough pre-Christmas.
“With a wider player pool, our competitive standards within the squad have elevated and we have been pleased with our players’ evident courage and leadership in our short time together.
“The gap in domestic club rugby affords us the opportunity to strengthen our bond as a group and concentrate our efforts on aligning our framework before match activity this spring.”
