Bath player ratings vs Saracens | 2025/26 Investec Champions Cup
Bath player ratings: Bath overturned a 10-0 half-time deficit to beat Saracens 31-22 in the Investec Champions Cup round of 16 on Saturday at the Rec, and book a quarter-final with Northampton Saints.
It was certainly a performance of two halves from the hosts, with the bench having a major impact for Johann van Graan’s side. Here’s how the players rated:
15 Santiago Carreras – 7
A slightly mixed afternoon for the Argentine. He should have had an early assist on the board but fluffed a simple pass to Henry Arundell with the line begging. However, he grew into the game nicely, carrying for 47 metres and beating six defenders. His counter-attacking threat kept Saracens honest, even if defensively he missed a few tackles.
14 Joe Cokanasiga – 8
A constant menace. While he was caught out by Charlie Bracken’s dummy for Saracens’ opener, his response was emphatic. Made 100 metres, beat seven defenders and produced three line breaks in a devastating display. His try early in the second half was brutally simple, and his break sparked Bath’s counter-attack score.
13 Ollie Lawrence – 8
Nine carries, strong gainline success and a turnover to his name. His powerful surge created the platform for Cokanasiga’s try, and his own score – crashing over from close range – ultimately proved decisive.
12 Max Ojomoh – 6
A quieter outing compared to those around him. Carried five times and made his tackles, but didn’t impose himself consistently on the game. Solid without being spectacular.
11 Henry Arundell – 8
His first big moment went begging when he overplayed a pass after breaking down the left, but he responded in style. Took a superb line for his first try and added another late on to seal the game. 118 metres carried tells its own story – Saracens simply couldn’t live with him in space.
10 Finn Russell – 6
An odd performance. Looked flustered early on and coughed up possession a few times, but still influenced key moments. His kicking improved significantly as the game wore on, relieving pressure when Bath were down to 14. His quick thinking on his own line ignited the counter-attack for Spencer’s try. Not vintage Russell, but still decisive in patches.
9 Ben Spencer – 7
A mixed start but a strong finish. His early box kick was charged down, but he responded with a superb try, showing real pace to finish a long-range counter. His service improved as the game went on, including a fizzed pass to send Arundell over late on. Controlled things well in the final quarter.
1 Beno Obano – 5
Yellow-carded early in the second half which handed Saracens momentum, and conceded multiple penalties. Did win a scrum penalty after returning, but overall a disruptive afternoon.
2 Tom Dunn – 5
Busy defensively with 12 tackles but didn’t stamp authority on the set-piece in tough conditions. A steady rather than standout performance.
3 Archie Griffin – 4
Hooked off at half time after multiple infringements at the scrum up against Rhys Carre. With Thomas du Toit on the bench, it was a no-brainer for van Graan.
4 Quinn Roux – 6
Got through his work quietly with nine tackles and a couple of carries. Not overly prominent but did his job in the engine room.
5 Charlie Ewels – 7
A really classy moment to spark Bath’s attack, firing a pass that Russell himself would have been proud of to release Arundell. Solid defensively and reliable at the set-piece. One of his better outings.
6 Josh Bayliss – 6
Worked hard without major headlines. Carried and tackled diligently but lacked the standout moment.
7 Guy Pepper – 6
Ten carries and two turnovers highlight his work rate, but the yellow card for a cynical act hurt Bath at a key moment (strangely playing the No.9 by headbutting the ball). Redeemed himself somewhat with a crucial maul turnover. High energy, if slightly chaotic.
8 Alfie Barbeary – 6
Carried well (nine times) and tackled relentlessly, topping the charts with 15. His awareness in the counter-attack try to feed Spencer was excellent. A solid, industrious shift.
