Video - Tongan Thor shows the 'skills of a flyhalf' in NRC semi-final display

Bond University Queensland Country defeated Fijian Drua 57-21 to book their spot in the 2017 National Rugby Championship grand final.

Tighthead Taniel ‘Tongan Thor’ Tupou put in a standout performance. In the first half the 129kg Tupou threw a no look over the shoulder to set up a teammate after a big carry off a lineout.

Later in the same half the 21-year-old receives the ball in a slight of hand at the lineout, breaking and stepping a number of tackles on his way over the line.

Elsewhere a message left to fellow pupils by young Tongan Thor in his old school – Sacred Heart in Auckland – has gone viral. A photo of a piece of graffiti left by the powerhouse prop has been widely shared.

Just got watching the match back. Bath looked very impressive but Munster never recovered from the poor start.

Bath seemed to know Munster would give up on the game early and just go for a try bonus. Left a very open game.

Captains should have a call to just give it up in the corner and concede the 5 PTS and less than evens chance the touchline conversion goes over.

It's always better than the full 7 PTS and yellow card.

Byrne has been developing well for the last while. He needs to have a realistic shot at Ireland senior caps to keep Sam on this toes. Even it's a two way battle at test level, those fly halves need to be pushed at club level with form.

It's pleasing that an out of form Leinster can still put 45 PTS on the board but they have much to work on.

Three talking points from Round 5 of the 2025/26 PWR season

I can’t see past Gloucester-Hartpury for the title. Saracens will be their final opponents. There are 5 other teams in the dogfight to make the top 4, but Trailfinders and Exeter will have to win a lot of their winter matches to build up a cushion as after 31 March and into any possible play-offs they will be depleted as they lose many of their overseas players that they rely on.

As I said, Toulouse is part of the exception. They won the first “Heineken cup” and was, before, at the begining of its création. So I think Toulouse fans have no préférence. Even if it is easier for fans to go to Top14 final in Stade de France than to a CC final often in Great Britain. But the next final in Bilbao is at equal distance and not far from Toulouse or Bordeaux, without talking of Bayonne or Pau..

How did Toulouse fans feel about each title when they won both Top14 and CC in the same year? Did they see Top14 as a far greater priority and achievement?

For french teams ,Top 14 is more important, except for Toulouse, Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Toulon. Others have not the same lot of quality players and make a choice. The first responsability, and for SA teams too, is because there are too many games… A day will come the TV broadcasters and fans will be tired…. And it's even worth in Challenge Cup…

'We are the fix' - How the Sharks can regain their bite to build a dynasty

When it used to be the Heineken European Cup, with the home & away back to back matches, teams were contractually obliged to play their strongest teams, even when they couldn’t quality.

When you look at the side the Sharks have sent to FRA this week, it does undermine the integrity of the competition, especially with this two pool disaster of a qualifying format and not being able to play teams in your own country.
