Uncapped Loughborough centurion added to Wales training squad
Loughborough Lightning centurion Megan Davey has been added to Sean Lynn’s extended Wales training squad for the WXV Global Series.
The scrum-half made her Lightning debut as a 17-year-old and is the record appearance maker for Nathan Smith’s East Midlanders, having made 124 outings.
Along with Kendall Waudby [who has since joined Sale Sharks], Davey was called into Wales camp for the first time ahead of the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
At the time Davey said: “The idea of playing for Wales was first brought to me ahead of the 2021 Rugby World Cup [held in 2022 during to the global pandemic].
“I’ve had quite a few years to sit on the idea and now I really want to take up the opportunity and also do my nation proud. I am just going to go for it. I have been welcomed in with open arms by Lynny and hopefully the rest of the squad.
“My granddad is Welsh, James Davey, who is sadly no longer with us. My family has always wanted me to play international rugby, it has always been a dream for me.
“I am hoping I can make everyone proud of me, and honour my grandad’s memory. I am really excited about it all.”
This September and October, Wales will play Test matches against the USA Women’s Eagles and Springbok Women on home soil, before back-to-back fixtures against Japan in Tokyo and Kumagaya.
She joins fellow scrum-halves Keira Bevan, Seren Lockwood and Ffion Williams in Lynn’s squad.
Wales have only won just one fixture since Lynn was installed as head coach ahead of the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
That 21-12 victory against Australia in Brisbane was 13 months ago. In the time since, Wales crashed out of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 and endured a second winless Women’s Six Nations campaign in a row.
