Townsend makes two forced changes and one tactical as Scotland go for glory

Gregor Townsend has made three changes to his Scotland XV for their Triple Crown decider against Ireland on Saturday at the Aviva Stadium from the one that destroyed France 50-40 last week.

A calf injury to Gregor Brown and a hamstring injury to Scott Cummings have ruled the second-row pairing out, with Max Williamson and Grant Gilchrist starting in the engine room in their place.

The one tactical change to the team sees Zander Fagerson start this week at tighthead prop after being deployed from the bench late in the first half against Les Bleus.

Alex Craig and Magnus Bradbury have joined the bench this week to provide second-row and injury cover, while Kyle Rowe has joined the back substitutes on the bench, as Townsend has opted for a 5-3 bench split. All three will be making their first appearances of the Championship.

A victory in Ireland will lift Scotland to the top of the ladder, whereupon they will be reliant on England defeating France in the final match on Super Saturday to deliver them their maiden Six Nations title.

Makes sense. Staring Williamson and allowing the inexperienced but talented Craig see the match development before entering the fray seems to be the call there.

Starting Zander Fagerson means going for early scrum dominance and acknowledges Townsend expects a physical match early doors. Townsend has stated there may be fatigue and that he hoped the match would open up later. Kyle Rowe is a danger man in that scenario.

Dont rule out a scenario of Rowe scoring a try/winner late in the match. That possibility is live with that selection.
