It’s remarkable that the reigning No. 1 team in the world — and back-to-back Rugby World Cup champions — has produced only a single nominee. It raises legitimate questions about the criteria being applied. Rassie Erasmus, arguably the most influential coach of the modern era and the architect of South Africa’s sustained dominance, continues to be overlooked in global awards conversations. At some point, the credibility of these honours comes into question when they fail to reflect on-field reality. Either world rankings and World Cup results don’t matter or Awards criteria are esoteric, something doesn’t make sense.

I agree, how can you compare someone who coaches womens rugby which is admittedly on the up but nowhere nearly as competitive as the mens game to the Bok coach who continues to innovate and bring the best out of a group of players from vastly different backgrounds and cultures. He should be up for the award not only for the incredible results he has achieved but also for showing the world what successful transformation in sports looks like. Rugby used to be a european mans sport but with the work that Siya Kolisi and Rassie have done it has inspired a whole generation of young african kids who are already proving how incredibly good they are at the sport. Sorry but John Mitchell’s accomplishments are just pale in comparison

The guy that won it has a 100% record since he took over coaching the team, winning 33 consecutive matches over 3 years, and absolutely dominating in the world cup this year.

Hear hear !… I think that as the South Africans are probably eligible for every accolade going ,at the moment…. these “honours” are being steered away

as far as possible 🤭…There's going to be big tears when they (Boks,of course) win ‘27 RWC !!!🤣

Fancy stating your ignorance online for everyone to see. How embarrassing.

SVNS “Men’s” Player of the Year : Jorja Miller ? :/

I totally accept making Marx the Player of the 2025 Year, BUT, how can you ignore Johan Erasmus as 2025 Men’s Coach of the Year, after ALL he has had to deal with from World Rugby authorities and player changes within his own team ?? Is it a case of Sour Grapes, because he seems to win all the Mind Games and scheming that is plotted against the Green and Gold, in many various disguises ??

Cry me a river, Mitchell has coached a side that hasn’t lost a match since the RWC final in 2022. 33 consecutive wins over 3 years. It’s a completely deserved award.

I am pretty sure Rassie rathers wins World Cups than World Coach of the Year awards - exactly which makes him the coach he is ……

Hollie Davidson wins world rugby ref

If it was based on errors per game it would bee a different winner

D
DT 22 days ago

Matches I’ve watched Hollie call, she has done a better than average level, of being objective and even handed..

How is Rassie not the WR coach of the year?

N
NM 21 days ago

Probably because the guy that won it has a 100% record since he took over coaching the team, winning 33 consecutive matches over 3 years, and absolutely dominating in the world cup this year.

J
JF 21 days ago

Probably cause he’s South African

B

Because it is clear bias and a conspiracy against South Africa!

AN EXCELLENT QUESTION, FOR SURE…

Have you seen the Red Roses play? They’re over 5 ranking points ahead of the Men’s Boks. The Men’s Boks are starting to get some daylight from the rest of the men’s teams, but they’re nowhere near the Red Roses level of dominance. Men’s games are still bragging about a 10 game win streak while the Roses have hit 30+ twice.

Perhaps it helps to raise the profile of the women's game. It's been a big year for the women's game and this is the only cross over award.

Don't ask me if that's right or not but might give Mitchell a few votes.

World rugby has a problem with Rassie so he will never get that award

f
fl 22 days ago

It went to a coach who won a world cup

tbf I’d probably have given it to Rassie though

why no men’s dream team?
