Black Ferns head coach Whitney Hansen has rewarded Mo’omo’oga Palu’s pursuit of “greatness” with a start on debut for the Black Ferns in their Pacific Four Series finale against old foes, the Wallaroos.

The towering prop has developed under the watchful eye of Hansen at Matatu and in the Black Ferns XV, and her selection against Australia is one of just two changes to New Zealand’s starting team for this week’s action.

The other change is the promotion of teen sensation Justine McGregor from the bench to the right wing, with Mererangi Paul moving to the reserve unit.

“From Hawke’s Bay to high-performance environments, I’ve witnessed Mo’omo’oga chase greatness,” Hansen said of the prop.

“Her achievement hasn’t come quickly; she’s worked hard, and her rugby journey is a genuine reflection of the women’s rugby pathway at work in New Zealand. I hope she enjoys every moment come this Saturday.”

The remaining 13 starters have all retained their place in the XV from last week’s statement win over Canada. The bench sees Atlanta Lolohea come into the Black Ferns’ matchday squad for the first time in 2026, but is otherwise unchanged.

The weekend’s Test will be both a historic and a sentimental occasion, as New Zealand and Australia meet on the rugby field on a weekend commemorating the lives lost in the many conflicts in which the nations have served side by side.

“The significance of this weekend has been at the forefront for us as we prepare to take the field. This game is an opportunity for us to celebrate two nations coming together to commemorate the sacrifices made by members who served. This weekend we play for them,” Hansen said.

“The Black Ferns and Wallaroos trans-Tasman rivalry already carries significance. We know Australia are a strong team and will match the physicality that we bring, they have nothing to lose and everything to play for.”
