They kick-off the men’s competition in Dubai this Saturday 17 January when they take on Belgium. They will also play group matches against Italy and Canada in a challenging Pool B.

In recent years the popularity of rugby has exploded in Madagascar. At national matches there are regular attendances of over 40,000 and there are tens of thousands of registered players in the nation.

Their men’s sevens team enjoyed exposure to the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series competition last season. In 2025 they finished seventh overall in the competition after three legs in South Africa and Poland.

The top two men’s and women’s teams at HSBC SVNS 3 will gain automatic promotion to HSBC SVNS 2, which takes place between February and March in Nairobi, Montevideo and São Paulo.

A finish in the top four after those three legs in Africa and South America can secure teams a place at the HSBC SVNS World Championships and a shot at HSBC SVNS Series qualification.
