Ultimate Sevens has unveiled a world-class first group of 16 marquee players ahead of the competition’s inaugural campaign, with Australia’s Maddison Levi and Argentina’s Luciano Gonzalez among the stars signed on for Season One.

Levi and Gonzalez are previous recipients of World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year honours, and the pair were both named in the 2026 SVNS Series Dream Team after impressing once again.

Those two headline the first group of contracted marquee players for the new global Ultimate Sevens Championship, which launches this September. Three-time Olympian Henry Hutchison and Paris Games gold medallist Jazmin Felix-Hotham will also take part.

Australia captain Isabella Nasser joins teammates Faith Nathan and Heidi Dennis in this list, just weeks after winning the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Bordeaux. Abbie Brown, Charlton Kerr, Jimena Blanco-Hortiguera, Krissy Scurfield, Lucas Lacamp, Manu Moreno, Roderick Solo, Stephen Tomasin and Thalia Costa will also support the growth of Ultimate Sevens.

The role of these players is to help build the Championship both on and off the pitch. All six Ultimate Sevens clubs will field a men’s and women’s team, with the competition set to be played across four European cities.

“Marquee players are incredibly important to what we are building. They set the standard, bring quality, leadership and personality, and help people understand why sevens is such a special sport,” Tom Mitchell, Sports and Innovation Director at Ultimate Sevens, said.

“This group represents so much of what Ultimate Sevens is about. Speed, skill, ambition and character. They are players who can change a game in seconds, but they are also people who can inspire the next generation and help take the Championship to new audiences.”

Tomasin captained the USA throughout the recent three-event SVNS World Championship, which saw the Eagles Sevens secure a spot in the first division next season. It came down to the final play of the team’s final match, with Lacamp scoring the match-winner against Fiji.

That saw the USA secure promotion to the SVNS Series, where Tomasin and Lacamp will face other Ultimate Sevens players like Moreno and Solo. Gonzalez is of course another player to watch, named in the World Rugby Dream Team the last two years.

“Confirming our first marquee players is a major moment for Ultimate Sevens. From day one, our ambition has been to build a Championship around the athletes and to create a stage that reflects their talent, their value and their impact,” Barny Pascall, Managing Director of Ultimate Sevens, added.

“The marquee player model is an important part of that. It gives us a way to recognise the highest value players in the Championship, but also to work more closely with them as leaders, storytellers and ambassadors for the sport.”
