Internationals Elliot Daly and Andy Onyeama-Christie will play no further part in Saracens’ season after the North London club confirmed the luckless pair had suffered fractured arms in last weekend’s Champions Cup defeat to Bath.

Daly’s Lions tour ended early last summer after picking up the same injury against the Queensland Reds, while this is the third time that Scotland back-rower Onyeama-Christie has broken his arm.

Both players completed the full 80 minutes as Saracens exited the competition at the Round of 16 stage, leaving them with nothing but pride to play for in the remainder of the season.

Onyeama-Christie, who has made 18 appearances for the North London club this season, posted an update on Instagram: “Annual injury post, 3rd time lucky with the arm. Remaining hopeful – it’ll get better.”

Messages of support have come flooding in for the popular flanker, with Scotland teammate Matt Fagerson among the many to wish him all the best. “Ironman rebuild 3.0. Got this,” said the No.8.

Sarries wing Noah Caluori said, ‘Only way’s up’, while the now-retired Brad Barritt added, “Stay positive mate, you will be back in no time.”

Sadly, Onyeama-Christie is no stranger to the treatment room, having suffered a horrific, fractured and dislocated ankle in October 2024. “That moment was like nothing I have ever experienced before,” he said in an interview with TNT Sports.

Previously, he’d broken his arm twice in quick succession, ruling him out of the 2023 Rugby World Cup and Scotland’s 2024 summer tour.

Meanwhile, Argentinean flanker Juan Martin Gonzalez has undergone foot surgery and young prop Vilikesa Nairau has had bicep surgery.

On the positive front, Alec Clarey is now available for selection and Toby Knight has returned to training.

Sir Graham Henry is the All Blacks' new kingmaker - and lords of the scrum high on his agenda

NB I have stayed away from this dialogue about Razor because hey I am a bit tired of being the lone discordant voice in this chorus. I agree that his systems struggled under pressure. I also agree with your analysis last year that he needed to bring in some outside the tent expertise to help him reignite the open field attack (eg an O’Gara). But the theme here that he was directionless and lacked nous is wrong and revisionist in my view. He was clearly trying to bring to the ABs a structured power game and it was building momentum. The wins against good opposition, including the Boks, Ireland, Scotland, Australia (who at that stage had just beaten the Boks and the Lions) and Argentina showed this. The loses were bad - but hey who has not had shockingly bad losses in the last 12 months - the Boks, France, Ireland, Scotland, Argentina, Australia, and England all included. Yet the history now seems to be that Razor lacked the basic skills to be a good coach based largely on second hand reports of player reactions. Against this we have the inside view of NZ’s most astute coach ever, Smith, who was happy with the direction he was taking. Did Razor have his faults and was he struggling to get his message through - seems so. Did he need help - for sure. But he was the second most successful coach last year in the world with a team still transitioning from a dynasty that had well and truly had its day. Rennie has inherited that base - and I really look forward to what he will bring - but just don’t agree that Razor was the lost coach most are now making him out to be.
