Wales call-up rookie centre and uncapped prop ahead of All Blacks Test

Wales have called up Scarlets centre Joe Roberts and Ospreys prop Ben Warren ahead of their Autumn Nations Series meeting with New Zealand.

Roberts won the last of his six Wales caps on the summer tour of Japan, while tighthead prop Warren is uncapped.

Head coach Steve Tandy said: “We have decided to add Joe and Ben to the squad this week as an important part of our preparation for the final two weeks of our autumn campaign.”

Wales host the All Blacks in Cardiff on Saturday before closing their autumn programme against world champions South Africa the following weekend.

Tandy claimed his first win as Wales boss on Saturday with a last-gasp 24-23 victory over Japan.

It’s not a major omission, let’s not exaggerate. We shouldn’t forget that at the start of the season, Lucas Casey wasn’t even in the Highlanders’ official squad. He got his opportunity early on and never looked back. This young guy really has something special. You’d have to be blind not to see it.

Rennie could have selected him instead of Blackadder. He chose to give the Crusaders player another chance. That’s a perfectly respectable decision, but personally, it’s not the choice I would have made.

Good guy to bounce stuff off of but can he really give you support from NZ? His value at Leinster and in the early days of his Ireland job was that he was willing to get out to clubs and schools around the province/country and talk shop.

I tend to agree with the writer on this one: I don't think it looks good towards the other players that their captain flies in for the important matches.

It seems as well that Jordie Barrett played quite a bit more minutes of rugby than Ardie Savea has over the last 12 months.

Yes a roof would change the weather that comes in from the South Pole but also in my opinion, when booking seats for a match at the Cake Tin the premium arent actually the best. These premium priced seats are at the halfway line area/along the touchline, but because of its round/oval shape you are actually quite a way back from the rectangle shaped field. (Its better to have seats on the ‘2’ corners, they shut half the stadium off to the public.) You cld probably swap corners at half time as there are empty seats both ends mid comp. When you get older I hate to break the news, but your eyesight starts to wane. Some “Lorgnette Opera” or “Theater Glasses” the ones on a stick could be a seller.

I may have put you crook calling it John St. Since the Canes moved out to the Hutt it is now officially a soccer field called “Te Whaea Artificial Turf” if you check out the photos on Google Maps you’ll be able to see its basically a natural stadium as it is, you could put ample seating around the banks that are there and there is ample ckear land all around the place for parking. No houses anywhere near there so no demolition of them at all plus - is bang smack in the middle of a walkway from Island Bay to town so you could park anywhere and walk the track to the venue. It may look flat on the map and the sports field is of course but it is flanked by 300 odd mtr high str up and down sides. I cant claim to have come up with the idea to be honest. Everyone thinks that would be such a cool, tribal type club venue for the Hurricanes who pull 10-14000 people to a normal round game. A far more sheltered and intimate place that would bring a vibe into the city.

The RWC is a lottery. The team that won it in 2023 and 2019 were not even the best team in their pool. Draw based in more recent rankings now so improved but still not better.

Apart from 1991 any team that beat NZ in a knock out always lost the next match. Did you need to be the best team in the world to win the RWC? No, just be on the other side of the draw to NZ and if not hope that someone else beat them first.
