Kurtley Beale receives Wallabies recall as Les Kiss adds three to squad
95-Test capped Kurtley Beale is among the final three additions to the Wallabies squad for the Nations Championship Northern Series, with former Northampton Saints flyer James Ramm becoming the latest uncapped prospect to receive a call-up.
Before the Wallabies leave Australia’s shores this weekend for Spring Tour matches against England, Scotland, Wales and in the Nations Championship Finals weekend, coach Les Kiss has also added Kalani Thomas back to the touring group.
Beale hasn’t been selected in a Wallabies squad in two years but has been recalled with Hunter Paisami withdrawing from the tour due to personal reasons. Earlier on Wednesday, the Western Force announced that Beale had re-signed on a season-long train-and-trial deal.
If Beale takes the field during the November internationals, it’ll mark the utility back’s first Test in a gold jersey since 2021. Beale has took the field in the Super Rugby AUS Grand Final, starring as the Western Force overcame the NSW Waratahs in Perth.
Ramm has signed with the Force for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season, returning home to Australia after spending some time abroad in PREM Rugby. The winger also helped Northland reach the NPC Grand Final in New Zealand, which was won by Canterbury in Christchurch.
Thomas will re-join the Wallabies are Australia A finish their tour-match tour of the United States. Initially, Kiss went with Ryan Lonergan, Tate McDermott and uncapped Teddy Wilson as the three scrum-halves in the group, but Thomas has been added to that contingent.
“With Hunter’s unavailability we’re excited by what Kurtley can bring to the group,” Kiss said.
“He’s got 95 caps worth of Test experience and whilst he will primarily cover inside centre he has the versatility to play a number of positions across the backline.
“Kurtley’s also been in great form for the Western Force in Super Rugby Pacific and Super Rugby AUS and is excited to contribute to the environment.
“At the same time, James is a player we’ve kept a keen eye on for a while and his form for Northland has been exceptional in recent times.
“He’s someone who knows the UK well having spent a very successful period with Northampton and can cover multiple positions across the backline.”
The Wallabies will leave for the United Kingdom on Saturday.
