Fiji player ratings: A massive turnaround after one of the saddest weekends for Fiji rugby, with Fiji contesting for the win until the last second, even though Scotland ended up running away with a 33-17 win at Murrayfield.

It was like a team was reborn from the ashes, with Fiji going into half-time in the lead thanks to the massive efforts of Josua Tuisova, Elia Canakaivata and Selestino Ravutaumada.

1. Eroni Mawi – 4.5
One of the few who failed to show any improvement from last week’s clash, with Mawi conceding three penalties that luckily had no serious consequences, thanks to Scottish inconsistency and his team’s strong defensive performance. On his 50th cap as a member of the Flying Fijians brigade, the loosehead only managed to hold on at scrum time.

2. Tevita Ikanivere – 7.5
Fiji’s lineout was a tough bone for Scotland to chew, with Ikanivere delivering a consistent performance in the set-piece to launch his team towards a promising afternoon. The hooker also brought his A-game as a defending operator, quickly getting back to his feet to help Fiji secure their try area.

3. Mesake Doge – 7
Mesake Doge was tireless throughout, contributing heavily at the set-piece, in defence, and as a ball runner—a performance full of energy and industry, looking rejuvenated after last week’s humiliation.

4. Isoa Nasilasila – 7.5
It may not grab the headlines, but the lock’s work as a counter-maul specialist deserves recognition as he consistently disrupted Scotland’s driving maul, turning one of the visitors’ key weapons into a genuine liability throughout the match. Did his part in Fiji’s defence and stayed away from being caught by the officiating team.

5. Temo Mayanavanua – 7.5
Relentless from start to finish, executing 16 successful tackles —two of them dominant — and brought positive aggression and physicality to the defence against Fiji, a level of force that even flattened Max Williamson to the ground.

6. Piat Gus Sowakula – 7
Did what was demanded from a player of his quality, narrowing down Scotland’s options well from the scrum exit and giving good support to Fiji’s main ball carriers.

7. Lekima Tagitagivalu – 7
Was sin-binned in a crucial moment of the game, but fortunately Fiji remained resolute for those 10 minutes, which ended with the ‘home’ team scoring their third try of the game. However, it would be extremely unfair not to praise Tagitagivalu’s work at the breakdown, where he secured three crucial turnovers and proved a constant source of frustration for Scotland.

8. Elia Canakaivata – 8
Caught the entire Scotland team by surprise with that break from the middle of the ruck that ended with the No.8 bagging Fiji’s third try with 7 minutes to the break. Immense whenever he was involved, Elia Canakaivata’s relentless work rate gave Fiji a never-ending source of momentum, with his powerful carrying consistently winning the gainline and sending Scotland packing backwards.

9. Frank Lomani – 7.5
Brought a much-needed stability and cohesion to Fiji’s game, supplying his side not only with a strong passing game but also a cunning box-kicking strategy. Like Caleb Muntz, didn’t need to perform any flashy moves to make an impact.

10. Caleb Muntz – 7
With Lomani taking control of the Fijian pack from the get-go, Muntz’s life was made easier with the fly-half having a more than acceptable baseline to commandeer his backline. Provided a safe kicking exit to Fiji, key to holding the lead at half-time. Unfortunately, his form dipped massively after the break, with the Flying Fijians’ chances of pulling off a sensational stunner taking a colossal hit.

11. Jiuta Wainiqolo – 7
Came to his team’s rescue ten minutes to the break, chasing down a dangerous Scottish short punt to quickly turn into a menacing Fijian counterattack. Enjoyed less time with the ball compared to Selestino Ravutaumada with Scotland, largely avoiding kicking in his direction and limiting his opportunities to get involved.

12. Josua Tuisova – 8.5
More than a few Scottish ribs were branded with Josua Tuisova’s name, as the centre delivered a total of five dominant tackles, which played a somewhat important role in giving confidence to his teammates. His juggernauting ways came in clutch several times, with the Fijian ‘The Bus’ even making an impact as a jackler, deserving to be in contention for the Player of the Match award.

13. Virimi Vakatawa – 7
Not wanting to be outdone by his fellow centre, he also delivered two dominant tackles that knocked the wind out of Darcy Graham and George Horne, forcing a turnover that proved crucial at the time in preventing a second Scottish try. It will make things interesting when Radradra returns in November, with Fiji now having three excellent options for the centre pairing.

14. Selestino Ravutaumada – 8.5
Couldn’t be contained for most of the afternoon, running from one side to the other, beating defenders and sowing several problems for Scotland thanks to a ferocious agility and pace. Scored a stunning try after cleverly chipping ahead for himself, showcasing both skill and awareness. Was a constant threat throughout and was one of Fiji’s most dangerous attacking weapons.

15. Isaiah-Armstrong Ravula – 7
Perhaps the least prominent of Fiji’s backs, with much of the action occurring elsewhere. However, he did his job efficiently and avoided the kind of mistakes that can prove costly at this level, working well with Muntz to keep the ball away from their own 22.

REPLACEMENTS

16. Sam Matavesi – N/A
A 3-minute cameo.

17. Livai Natave – 6
Gave a good go at scrum time, locking horns well with Zander Fagerson.

18. Peni Ravai – 6
Held his own against Pierre Schoeman, putting his shoulder to good use when it was needed.

19. Mesake Vocevoce – 5.5
Less exciting than Temo Mayanavanua, but still tried to bring some gas to the Fijian pack.

20. Kitione Salawa – 5.5
Came on for Sowakula without making any impact.

21. Sam Wye – N/A
Same as Matavesi and Rayasi: no time whatsoever to showcase what he could do.

22. Isikeli Rabitu – 5
Seemed somewhat out of sync tactically, with Scotland exploiting Fiji’s positional lapses to devastating effect in the final quarter. Had only two touches of the ball and was unable to make a meaningful impact.

23. Salesi Rayasi – N/A
Had no time whatsoever to inspire anything different in a team that was already physically exhausted.
