Every Australian team’s season schedule for Super Rugby Pacific 2027

The 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season draw has been announced, with the dates and venues for some fierce Australian derbies locked in. Blockbusters against New Zealand and Fijian opponents have also been confirmed ahead of the opening round in February.

Defending champions the Hurricanes will make two trips across the ditch during the round-robin to face the NSW Waratahs on March 5 in Sydney and the Queenslanders at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in late May.

It was an all-New Zealand contingent in the semi-finals last season, with the Hurricanes facing the Blues and the Chiefs hosting the Crusaders. The top two sides from Australia both fell in the Qualifying Finals, with the ACT Brumbies and Reds losing to the eventual finalists.

But a new season is just around the corner, with an Australian derby between two fierce rivals helping to kick off the campaign on February 12. The Brumbies take on the Waratahs in the capital on the Friday evening, with Canberra’s GIO Stadium the host venue.

The Waratahs were the last Australian side to take out a Super Rugby title, in competitions that included New Zealand opposition. Michael Cheika is back coaching the side, with championship-winning halves Nick Phipps and Bernard Foley also returning to the Sydney-based club.

NSW Waratahs

Key signings: Angus Crichton (NRL), Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps (Japan), Luke Reimer (Brumbies), Max Burey (Force), Angus Bell (returning from sabbatical with Ulster).

Last season: 8^th.

New South Wales were the lowest-ranked Australian side on the ladder last season, finishing in eighth with a 5-9 record. Sid Harvey was named the Super Rugby Pacific Rookie of the Year, while Max Jorgensen was among the elite on the Player of the Year charts.

Angus Crichton is one of the big-name signings joining the Waratahs from next season, with the representative rugby league forward signing on. Max Burey is another important pick-up, having been named the Super Rugby AUS Player of the Tournament one year ago.

The Tahs kick off their second era under coach Michael Cheika against the Brums in Canberra, before hosting the Fijian Drua in Sydney. It’s the first of three home matches in the opening five round, also taking on the Canes and Brums in the Harbour City.

In round six, the Tahs will make their way north for a crunch clash with arch-rivals the Reds at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, taking place on March 20. They will then jet west, facing the Force at Perth’s HBF Park on March 27.

The Crusaders, Force, Reds, Blues and Chiefs will also visit Sydney during the 17-round regular season, before the finals series. They will play eight home games and eight away matches, in a bid to make the playoffs.

“It’s really exciting for the Waratahs to land two Sunday fixtures in the Swyftx Super Rugby Pacific draw for 2027,” Transition General Manager of Commercial and Operations, James Durbin, said.

“We’ve had significant feedback from fans that they want to see Sunday games back at Allianz Stadium, so to be able to get two is a great result for the club and our fanbase in Sydney.

“Day games offer greater access for families and communities in the NSW region to come down and enjoy everything our sport has to offer.

“Coupled with more Saturday night games, we are delighted with the draw and can’t wait for the competition to kick off in February next year.”

Western Force

Key signings: James Ramm (Northampton & Northland), Wallace Charlie, Aden Ekanayake (Sevens), Harry McLaughlin-Phillips (Reds), James O’Connor (England), Trevor Hosea (Japan).

Last season: 7^th.

Harry McLaughlin-Phillips was on Monday unveiled as a potential debutant in the Wallabies squad to face the Springboks in Perth. ‘HMP’ debuted in Force colours against old side the Reds in the Super Rugby AUS opening round last weekend.

But McLaughlin-Phillips isn’t the only playmaker heading west, with Wallabies great James O’Connor returning to the club. Northampton winger James Ramm, Australia Sevens stars Aden Ekanayake and Wallace Charlie are other key signings as well.

The Force missed out on the playoffs last season, finishing four competition points behind the Brumbies in sixth. They will kick off their 2027 campaign at home to the Chiefs, before hosting the Brums the following Friday at Perth’s HBF Park.

It’s a tough run for the Force during the early rounds, with matches against defending champions the Hurricanes, Highlanders and the Reds all in the first five weeks. The Waratahs, Crusaders, Highlanders, Blues and Fijian Drua will also visit the Perth venue next season.

ACT Brumbies

Key signings: Len Ikitau (returning from sabbatical in England), Triston Reilly (Waratahs).

Last season: Qualifying Finals.

The Brumbies defeated four of the five New Zealand teams last season, with a heavy defeat to the Hurricanes in Super Round – and again in the Qualifying Finals – preventing them from a historic unbeaten run against the Kiwis.

Declan Meredith stepped up as the team’s first-choice No. 10, which led to a Wallabies debut during the July Nations Championship Tests. Meredith has been retained in squads since and is a chance to face the Springboks in Perth later this month.

The Brums kick things off in 2027 on the opening night, hosting rivals the Waratahs at Canberra’s GIO Stadium on February 12. They will take two home matches to Manuka’s Corroboree Group Oval, facing the Force on March 19 and the Reds on April 10 at the venue.

Reigning champions the Hurricanes head across to Australia’s capital for a match on April 16, which will be the latest instalment in one of the competition’s most exciting rivalries. The Brums defeated the Hurricanes there in the 2025 Qualifying Finals.

Queensland Reds

Key signings: Izaia Perese (England), Lachlan Hooper (Waratahs and Northland), Cadeyrn Neville (Brumbies), Tom Lambert (Waratahs).

Last season: Qualifying Finals.

The Reds finished just one point behind the fourth-placed Blues last season, before bowing out of the title race with a Qualifying Final defeat to the Chiefs in Hamilton. That was their last match under now Wallabies coach Les Kiss.

Vern Cotter has succeeded Kiss in that role, taking charge ahead of the Super Rugby AUS season, which began last weekend. The Reds have made some key signings before the new campaign but will turn to a largely familiar squad in 2027.

Queensland starts their season across the Tasman to kick things off, looking to hand the Crusaders an opening-round loss at Christchurch’s One NZ Stadium. The Reds will then return home to face the Chiefs on February 21, before heading off to Fiji.

There’s a lot of travel for the Reds early on, who will then head to Auckland, Perth, and then back to Brisbane. After two matches at home against the Waratahs and Drua, the Queenslanders will again fly to Christchurch for a Super Round clash with the Hurricanes.

“We’re thrilled our members and fans will enjoy eight home matches at Suncorp Stadium in 2027. We are excited to continue to build on the positive attendance growth and momentum of recent seasons, and retain our status as Australia’s most attended club,” Queensland Rugby Union Chief Executive, David Hanham, said.

“Having the Reds vs Blues and the first Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup Test on back-to-back days will create a real festival of rugby in Brisbane.

“Rugby wants to be the best experience in Australian sport on that weekend of special meaning to generations of Australians.

“We have wonderful support from members and fans. This is a draw with several afternoon kick-off times that suit families and kids plus the bigger home schedule.

“There’s an exciting season ahead.”
