Worcester Warriors have signed former England flanker Matt Kvesic ahead of their return to professional rugby next season.

The 33-year-old will return to the club he started his career with in what the club have described as “the first of several major player signings” as they embark on their comeback in England’s second division next season.

The four-cap England international spent four years at Sixways between 2009 and 2013 before joining Gloucester and then Exeter Chiefs. He marked his homecoming in 2022, bringing his tally of Premiership appearances to over 250, but found himself leaving again two years later as the club disbanded.

Following a short stint with Zebre in Italy after his abrupt exit, the jackaling maestro joined Coventry in the Championship, where he has spent the last two seasons.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to Worcester Warriors,” said Kvesic.

“This club has always held a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to return, reconnect with the fans, and contribute to what’s shaping up to be an incredibly exciting time for the club.”

“Firstly, I’m exceptionally excited to rejoin my first club, third time lucky! Back at a club which
means so much to me, the place that gave me an opportunity as a 16/17 year old.” Said Kvesic.

“I want to be a part of their journey back to top flight rugby, albeit it slightly older and hopefully wiser! It was a no brainer to be part of what Christopher, Steve and Matt are building and I am here to support them on and off the field. I know there’s a huge desire for professional rugby to be back in the city and it’ll be an honour to put the blue and gold colours back on.”

Newly-named head coach Matt Everard added: “I am delighted with the signing of Matt Kvesic. Matt is a massive part of Worcester Warriors, and Worcester Warriors is a massive part of Matt.

“He is someone who knows and cares about the club, the city, and the fans. But not only that, he is a top-quality player who has been in environments that have won big competitions and big games. He knows what it takes to win, and what it looks like on a day-to-day basis.

“He is someone I know personally and I have worked with in the past, and I cannot wait to welcome Matt and his family back home to Sixways.”
