Dragons bolster backline with Super Rugby signing
Tongan star Fine Inisi will play for the Dragons in the URC next season after agreeing to a move from Moana Pasifika.
The powerhouse wing/centre was one of Tonga’s standout performers at last year’s Pacific Nations Cup and was named joint Player of the Year with younger brother Lotu by Moana Pasifika supporters last season.
In four seasons with Moana Pasifika, Inisi has scored 11 tries, but the 95kg player, with a shock of dyed blonde hair, has failed to cross the whitewash in four appearances in 2025.
Auckland-born Inisi has also represented North Harbour in the NPC, where he worked alongside new Dragons defence coach Dale MacLeod, and has won 15 caps for his country.
“I’m grateful and excited for the opportunity to play in the northern hemisphere for a great club,” he said.
“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m keen to put my best foot forward in helping the Dragons achieve greatness.
“Adjusting to new traditions in Wales will be different for me and my little family, but we are excited to fully immerse ourselves in the culture.”
Head Coach Filo Tiatia said: “I am very excited to work with Fine again, having done so previously during our time at Moana Pasifika.
“He brings good values as well as an attacking threat with his footwork and ball-carrying ability.
“I look forward to Fine taking his form from Super Rugby Pacific to Rodney Parade next season.”
Inisi’s signing is the latest impressive piece of recruitment by Wales’ worst-performing region. He joins Harlequins prop Dillon Lewis, Biarritz loose forward Levi Douglas, Cardiff flanker Thomas Young and fly-half Tinus de Beer in moving to Rodney Parade on a permanent basis.
And a few good youngsters, might be enough to get them off the bottom of the roster next season. Another 3 or 4 needed to challenge big boys. I hope Connacht recruit well or they might be replacing Dragon’s at the bottom of URC
