Winger Rotimi Segun has joined Saracens’ growing injury list following their loss to Castres on Sunday.

The 28-year-old lasted an hour of his side’s Investec Champions Cup loss at the StoneX Stadium before pulling up after what appeared to be a fairly innocuous-looking incident.

Saracens have now confirmed that the winger sustained a calf injury and is expected to be out of action for 12 weeks.

This came shortly before former England captain Jamie George suffered a hamstring injury that has ruled him out of the opening match of the Guinness Six Nations against Ireland.

Saracens face Exeter Chiefs on Saturday in the Gallagher Premiership and are already without their English contingent, which includes captain Maro Itoje, Ben Earl, Elliot Daly, Theo Dan and Tom Willis. That will be the final Premiership match until March, with the Premiership Rugby Cup resuming during the Six Nations.

Segun is likely to miss Sarries’ Champions Cup round of 16 fixture against Toulon on April 5 at the Stade Mayol. The loss to Castres in London cost the club the chance of hosting their knockout fixture, and instead face a daunting trip to the Cote d’Azur.

Flanker Toby Knight was the final casualty from the clash with the Top 14 outfit. The flanker lasted fewer than 10 minutes from the bench before leaving the field with a knee injury. The extent of the injury is not yet known, however, with the 23-year-old set to see a consultant.

Knight joins a sizeable list of absentees in the back-row, which includes the injured duo of Andy Onyeama-Christie and Theo McFarland, as well as Earl and Willis on international duty.

Saracens currently sit in third place in the league, and a win over the Chiefs, who have only registered one league win this season, would bolster their place in the top four, with fifth-place Gloucester hosting fourth-place Leicester Tigers on Saturday, meaning points are guaranteed to be dropped immediately below them.
