Costly error doesn't go unpunished as Glasgow name team for Connacht
Versatile Scotland back Jamie Dobie will revert to his old scrum-half role as Glasgow aim to maintain their unbeaten start to the URC season on Friday against Connacht at Scotstoun.
Dobie has scored three tries in Warriors’ first two games of the season from the left wing, where he has largely been deployed for club and country since last December – aside from the URC semi-final loss to the Bulls in April when George Horne was injured.
But the 25-year-old, who started Scotland’s Nations Championship games against Argentina and South Africa in July in the No.11 shirt, returns to his former beat against the Galway outfit.
Horne, whose petulant reaction in last week’s 33-33 draw with Ulster saw a penalty reversed and cost Glasgow a try at a vital time, moves to the bench.
Dobie’s switch means emerging 21-year-old Fergus Watson is handed his third senior start on the wing, with Ollie Smith coming in at outside centre after Stafford McDowall was forced off against Ulster after a blow to the head.
Warriors head coach Franco Smith has also shaken up his pack, with four more changes of personnel, plus one positional, to the side surprisingly held at home by Ulster after an opening win at Munster.
British and Irish Lions lock Scott Cummings comes into the second row for his first start of the season after two outings as a replacement, with Gregor Brown rotating to the replacements.
Rory Darge returns at openside and Macenzzie Duncan starts at number eight, with Matt Fagerson reverting to blindside flanker and Ally Miller on the bench.
There is a further change in the front row where Scotland prop Nathan McBeth takes over from Patrick Schickerling at loosehead.
Fit-again lock Jare Oguntibeju will get his first outing of the season from the bench.
Glasgow XV: 15 Josh McKay, 14 Kyle Rowe, 13 Ollie Smith, 12 Sione Tuipulotu (capt), 11 Fergus Watson, 10 Dan Lancaster, 9 Jamie Dobie; 1 Nathan McBeth, 2 Gregor Hiddleston, 3 Fin Richardson, 4 Max Williamson, 5 Scott Cummings, 6 Matt Fagerson, 7 Rory Darge, 8 Macenzzie Duncan.
