Worcester Warriors sign another 30-something ex-international
Worcester Warriors’ squad building continues apace with the Champ Rugby outfit confirming their fifth signing, former Wales scrum-half Lloyd Williams.
The Cardiff-born player, who is 35, was first linked with the Warriors by RugbyPass last month and the deal is now done and dusted.
Having played in the 2011 and 2015 World Cups and won 32 caps and three Six Nations titles in his time with Wales, Williams brings a wealth of top-level experience to Sixways.
“Lloyd is an outstanding player and leader with an incredible amount of international and European experience,” said Warriors head coach Matt Everard.
When I first met him, I was very impressed by his calm manner, and I know this style of leadership will be brilliant for us building a full team together.”
Similar to ex-England Matt Kvesic, Josh Bassett and Tiff Eden, Williams has the winning mentality that head coach Matt Everard will need as he looks to galvanise a squad of new players together in double-quick time.
Of the five signings made by the Warriors to date, only Aussie sevens international Tim Anstee is below 30 years of age.
Williams also played sevens at the highest level, with Wales, as well as making 260 appearances, a record in the pro era, in 13 seasons with Cardiff Rugby.
He joined Ealing Trailfinders for the start of the 2023/24 season, helping the club to win back-to-back Championship titles.
