Saracens player ratings: Saracens let a second half lead slip against their rivals Exeter Chiefs at the StoneX on Saturday, losing 30-24 at the StoneX.

The hosts largely dominated the first half, but went in at the break behind. They took control of the match in the second 40, but two quickfire tries from the visitors put them behind, before a Henry Slade try at the death sealed the deal.

Mark McCall will be scratching his head about how his side lost that match. Here’s how the Saracens players rated:

15. Elliot Daly – 6.5
Looked comfortable sweeping from the back and offered his usual calmness under pressure, but wasn’t able to unlock the Chiefs’ defence.

14. Noah Caluori – 7.5
Opened the scoring with a sharp interception on halfway, but a fluffed high ball catch gave the Chiefs their first try. Showed flashes of his athleticism and finishing instincts, but still raw in places. Scored in the corner before being substituted in the second half.

13. Nick Tompkins – 7.5
Typically combative. Carried hard, defended aggressively and brought plenty of edge in contact, getting over the ball well. A steadying influence in the middle of the park.

12. Olly Hartley – 5.5
An addition to the matchday squad just minutes before kick-off after Lucio Cinti was forced to pull out, but in no way looked underprepared with a hand in all aspects of play.

11. Max Malins – 6.5
Worked hard off his wing and popped up infield to good effect. Didn’t have a huge amount of space to exploit, but had some classy touches.

10. Owen Farrell – 5
Managed territory well, marshalled those around him and brought his trademark competitiveness. However, he slipped off two important tackles in quick succession as Greg Fisilau scored to put the Chiefs in the lead in the second half. Kicking off the tee was wayward and costly.

9. Ivan van Zyl – 6
Kept the tempo high and made sensible decisions at the base, playing the entire 80 minutes, but was another that found the Chiefs’ defence hard to break down.

1. Rhys Carre – 6
High output in defence and held his own in the scrum, but maybe didn’t see the ball as much as he would have wanted in his 46 minutes on the field.

2. Theo Dan – 7
Lively as ever, racking up 11 carries, nine tackles and a turnover in 46 minutes. Fairly accurate at the lineout and a constant nuisance in the loose.

3. Marcus Street – 6
A solid shift in the front-row. Scrummaged steadily and had a compelling battle with Will Goodrick-Clarke.

4. Nick Isiekwe – 5.5
Offered next to nothing with the ball, but worked hard in defence. But he is no Maro Itoje.

5. Hugh Tizard – 6
Put himself about and added physicality in the tight exchanges, leading the match with a commendable 17 tackles. Continues to grow into his role at this level.

6. Juan Martín González – 7
Brought real dynamism to the back-row, albeit his discipline was a bit of a hindrance. His work rate and physicality stood out, but wasn’t enough.

7. Ben Earl – 7
Everywhere defensively, aggressive over the ball and powerful in the carry. Set the tone with his intensity, and won a crucial penalty late, but Sarries couldn’t make it count. Maybe lacked the headline moments his performances usually contain.

8. Tom Willis – 7.5
Simply at the top of his game. Carried hard and consistently won so many collisions, with Chiefs tacklers bouncing off him. Provided front-foot ball and helped Saracens assert control, though they didn’t always capitalise with points.

Replacements
16. Jamie George – 6.5
17. Eroni Mawi – 5
18. Marco Riccioni – 5
19. Harry Wilson – 5
20. Andy Onyeama-Christie – 5.5
21. Charlie Bracken – N/A
22. Fergus Burke – N/A
23. Rotimi Segun – 7
