Racing rule out permanent O'Gara Ireland role

By Peter Thompson

Racing 92 have assured fans that Ronan O’Gara will not be leaving the club by stating that their defence coach will only be allowed to work with Ireland “for a week of training.”

Former Ireland fly-half O’Gara this week told the SportsJoe Live show that he will part of his country’s coaching team for part of the tour of the United States in June.

The Six Nations runners-up will also travel to Japan as part of their summer tour, but O’Gara confirmed he will only be heading to the USA.

“I’m luckily going on the first week of the summer tour to America. It’s really exciting and a great opportunity for me to learn from who I consider the best coach in world rugby in Joe Schmidt. I can’t wait.” he said.

But Top 14 champions Racing on Thursday allayed any concerns that O’Gara could be set for a permanent role with Ireland.

A tweet from the official club account said: “Rest assured, if @RonanOGara10 joins Joe Schmidt’s Ireland XV, it’s just for a week of training!”

O’Gara last year signed a new contract with the Paris club until 2019.
