Bath and England flanker Ted Hill has signed a new deal at the club, keeping him at the Rec until 2029.

The 26-year-old joined the club in 2023 following the demise of Worcester Warriors and has gone on to make 63 appearances, starting in the Challenge Cup and Gallagher PREM final victories last season.

Hill has been a frequent member of Steve Borthwick’s recent England squads, albeit with limited game time. This new deal ensures he will remain eligible for England for the 2027 World Cup and beyond.

An ankle injury earlier in the season prevented the versatile forward from making England’s squad for the Quilter Nations Series, and he has since failed to make the squad for the Guinness Six Nations.

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan has nevertheless hailed the speedy forward as “one of the best players in England.”

“To be renewing my contract at Bath is a really special moment for me,” Hill said. “I have loved being part of this club, working alongside an amazing group of players and coaches whilst also playing in front of the amazing fans at The Rec.

“To extend my contract is really exciting as we continue to push for bigger and better things together as a club.”

Van Graan added: “What a great journey Ted Hill has been on since his arrival at Bath. Not only has he developed into one of the best players in England, but he has crept deep into everyone’s hearts at our club.

“We are very glad that Ted will be continuing his journey with us here in the Blue, Black and White.”

Ted is probably one of 3 or 4 players right on the verge of breaking into the England side. I hope he gets an opportunity sometime soon. At 26, he’s probably entering his physical peak.

‘The All Blacks may not win next year’s World Cup but at least they have been better set up to succeed’

I think it will be a war between two philosophies of rugby. One based on based on programmatic powered structured rugby eg Boks, England, Ireland, Italy, and Aussie. Sometimes these will be based around the set piece, box kick and repeated formulaic ruck play combined with lightening strikes once the defence starts to fissure. (PS I dont buy into the theory that Brown ball is radically altering this - the anchor remains dominance through structured power) The other is based on sowing chaos with multiple high intensity attacking and defensive raids - not allowing the oppostion to establish a beachhead or base from which to strike, while maximising readiness to breach the defensive line en masse eg France, Scotland, Argentina, and Rennie’s ABs. If the ABs lose to Aussie and go down the other side of the draw, I cannot see Aussie going past the Boks - Boks structured power beats Aussie structured power. Too hard to pick if Boks power beats French chaos. But down the otherside AB chaos should be too much for England and Irish structured power, and for Argentinian chaos. If the ABs beat the Aussies, they will have had a poor build up to that point - odds must be against them beating the Boks power and struggling against the French. Ironically however if they lose to Aussie they will be primed for the final against the Boks or France.
