Ollie Chessum learns fate after hearing for dangerous tackle
Leicester Tigers lock Ollie Chessum has escaped a ban following his yellow card against Bath on Saturday in the Gallagher Premiership for a high tackle.
The England, and soon to be British and Irish Lions, lock was yellow carded in the opening stages of the 43-15 defeat to rivals Bath at the Rec for a dangerous tackle on winger Will Muir.
He attended a hearing on Tuesday charged with an alleged breach of World Rugby Law 9.13 – dangerous tackling.
Having already served a ban this season – and attended tackle school – for a high tackle against ASM Clermont Auvergne in the Investec Champions Cup, Tigers head coach Michael Cheika, and even Andy Farrell, would have been apprehensive about the outcome.
But Chessum is free to play when the Premiership returns for their final round clash against Newcastle Falcons, where they will look to book a home semi-final.
Independent disciplinary panel chair Gareth Graham said: “The panel had the benefit of hearing detailed evidence from the player, as well as viewing video footage of the incident and hearing submissions from the parties.
“Taking into account all the circumstances of the case, including the relevant factors set out in the Head Contact Process (HCP), the panel dismissed the citing. The player is free to play with immediate effect.”

Hmmmm … that was red all day long. Happy from a Lions perspective, but there is no consistency in applying the law.
