Leinster have confirmed that South Africa lock RG Snyman will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his ACL against Glasgow Warriors.

The 31-year-old left the field after 50 minutes with an injury to his right knee in Leinster’s 38-17 loss at Scotstoun, and missed the recent United Rugby Championship victory over Scarlets, with his head coach Leo Cullen confirming beforehand that he would be absent for “a while”.

Ahead of Leinster’s Investec Champions Cup clash with Edinburgh this week, Leinster revealed the bleak extent of the injury in an update.

An ACL injury will not only rule the lock out for the remainder of Leinster’s season, but he will be absent for South Africa’s Nations Championship fixtures in July, as well as their ‘Greatest Rivalry’ series with the All Blacks in August and September. Given the usual recovery time for ACL injuries, the World Cup winner will be in a race to play again in 2026.

This is now the third ACL rupture of Snyman’s career, although the previous two were on his left knee.

Elsewhere in the Leinster squad, Tadhg Furlong, Jimmy O’Brien and Garry Ringrose will be assessed further this week after all being removed in the victory over the Scarlets, as will James Ryan, who missed that match.

The injury update also confirmed that Andrew Porter came through the Scarlets match unscathed in what was his return from a long-term calf injury.

The club also revealed that there are no further updates on Jack Boyle, Hugh Cooney, Jordan Larmour, James Lowe, Diarmuid Mangan and Paddy McCarthy.

Rassie Erasmus’ South Africa face England, Scotland and Wales in July, before they move into a contest with Argentina in August, which will serve as a precursor to their four-match series with the All Blacks over four consecutive weekends from August 22.

He won’t miss the Bok’s Rugby Championship campaign as there is no Rugby Championship to miss in 2026. He will however miss the All Blacks tour to SA.
