    James Lowe Bio

James Lowe was born in New Zealand on 8 July 1992. During his school years, he was a junior and senior schools athletics champion and he represented New Zealand U15s at basketball.

After leaving school, he began playing local club rugby with the Waimea Old Boys club. He then took to the game incredibly quickly and made his first appearance for his local province, the Tasman Mako, as a 20-year-old in 2012.

Following strong performances in the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Lowe earned a Super Rugby contract with the Chiefs. Between 2014 and 2017, he was a regular for both sides, making 46 appearances for Tasman and 53 appearances for the Chiefs.

Then, in 2017, James Lowe announced that he was leaving New Zealand and signing for Leinster. In his first season with the Irish province, he won both the Pro14 and the European Rugby Champions Cup. He also won the Pro14 title with the province in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

In November 2020, James Lowe became eligible to play for Ireland via the three-year residency rule. Despite previously representing New Zealand Schools and the Māori All Blacks, Lowe chose to make his debut for Ireland in November 2020.

Lowe has since helped Ireland win multiple Six Nations Championships, including a Grand Slam in 2023. In 2024, his performances for Ireland saw him named in the World Rugby Men's 15s Dream Team of the Year.

Thanks to his supreme performances for Ireland over the years, James Lowe was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s 2025 tour of Australia. During the tour, he played in two test matches as the British and Irish Lions won the series 2-1.

With many of his best years still ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for James Lowe.
